For those that have deleted EVAP canister, do you just put a hose and filter on it?

My car is a 98 Camaro. I deleted the canister for EVAP. There are 4 lines coming out from the fuel pump. One of those went to the EVAP then from the EVAP to the intake vacuum. I got rid of all that. now I have one empty slot on the fuel pump on top of the tank. Can I just put a vacuum line on that and put a filter on the end of that? It does need to vent right? does it need a check valve or is it ok just to have a filter?

In a search half the people suggest capping it and the other half suggest letting it breath.
Which is the proper way?

Default

I just put a hose on mine and let it hang off the edge of the tank. Another option is to plug it then get a gas cap that has a vent built into it.
