is it worth buying the racetronix pump or just get the $100.00 walbro?

I would call to get their exact pressure #'s. If their high pressure is 60+ psi, and their low psi is 7psi go with the high. The low is more than likely the carburated pump.

I've done both. Originally had a Walbro and then went to a Racetronix setup when I thought there was something wrong with the pump. There was no problem with the pump. So, with having done both setups, I'd say just do the Walbro. There are some nice things about the Racetronix but I just can't say it's anything to justify the large price difference.

PAGregSS and other 1998 owners what does your setup consist of?

Can you run the tank all the way down to E like you can stock?

Is this all I will need for my pump upgrade
1 Walbro 255 Low pressure or High pressure? http://www.neweraperformanceparts.com/default.asp?S=503&A=E&PKV=walcamaro|0

1 Hotwire Kit
Casper lists the kit for all LS1 Fbodys
http://www.casperselectronics.com/mm...Category_Code=

but Newera Performance specificly lists only for 99-02 Fbodys
http://www.neweraperformanceparts.com/default.asp?S=503&A=E&PKV=ls1hotwire|0

Do I need the 38.00 new GM filter sock?

Which kit can I use on my 98 Z28?

Looks like about 150-160.00 for the entire setup, thats about half of the Racetronix kit + Filter sock...

Default fuelpump

dude get the walsboro high pressure with hot wire kit and filter sock. Hell it's better to have all the new **** anyways cause unless you have already taken down the tank you dont know the condition of the sock. I cant beleive the idiots who pay the extra 150 for the racetronix. Some of these cats shouldnt be touching their cars. If you can take down the tank you can definitely wire the pump. Dont be an idiot hell I can get sub frame connectors for the 150 bucks I saved. Be SMART BRO!!

I ordered the walbro on wed from EPP .Unless you are making 550+ horsepower you really don't need the hot wire kit.

To compare a walbro 255 and a "racetronix" pump...is like compairing a trans am to a z28
They both have the same internals.
There is a thread in here somewhere from racetronix stating that that is not the case. Their pump fits in wothout cutting the bucket. They also use a venturi systme that the Walborow does not.

Exactly, if more people actually took the time to read and understand the functional difference they would not post half the stuff they do....

Why a Racetronix F-LS1 Fuel System?
The 1999 & up LS1 F-body cars have a pump that is inside a plastic fill-bucket. The fill-bucket is equipped with two inlets on the bottom. The equalization checkvalve is used to fill the bucket when the level of fuel in the tank is greater than in the bucket. The equalization checkvalve does not allow fuel to exit the bucket. The venturi system's inlet is a combination checkvalve and powered suction system. The factory pump supplies pressurized fuel via a small tube which feeds a calibrated jet inside the venturi system. This jet of fuel shoots across the base of the checkvalve inlet thereby creating a suction effect which draws more fuel from the bottom of the tank through the filter sock. This venturi system keeps the bucket full all the time even when the fuel tank is almost empty. A full bucket keeps the pump immersed in fuel regardless of the tank level so that when the tank is low on gas and you are doing some hard cornering or acceleration the pump does not run dry and start aerating (air bubbles) the fuel. This happens as the fuel sloshes from side to side in the tank leaving the center low on fuel. This can cause detonation and possible engine damage. The 99+ F-LS1 cars with plastic tanks have no baffling in them so the bucket is very important. The bucket also allows the car to operate with lower fuel levels in the tank due to its scavenging effect. The fill-bucket improves motor crank-to-run time as the priming time is reduced under most conditions. The return line feeds the pressure regulator on the fuel module which diverts fuel back into the bucket so that the unused fuel also helps keep it full at all times. Keeping the pump constantly immersed in gas within the bucket can extend the pump's life by not allowing it to be exposed to open air. Open air within the tank contains moisture and in time will cause the pump to rust / seize up especially if left to sit for long periods of time without the tank topped-up (i.e. winter storage).
The Racetronix pump assembly is shrouded in a T6 anodized aluminum housing. This housing simulates the proper outer diameter of the factory pump for proper fitment. WARNING: Some copy-cat pump kits use a foam rubber sleeve which will deteriorate using today's pump and race gas which can contaminate the fuel module. This can cause pump failure and engine damage. GM does not use rubber parts in late model fuel systems so why introduce this potential menace now?
The Racetronix pump is equipped with a factory type fuel tube not a rubber hose. This fuel tube is important as when the fuel module is placed back in the tank it must bend sharply which can cause standard rubber hose to kink. This fuel tube is much more resistant to the solvents in today’s gas and it will not crack, split, swell and collapse like a rubber hose. This is why G.M. uses them as OE equipment. WARNING: Some copy-cat pump kits use a longer generic flex-tube which can bind up and puncture once the module is compressed back into the tank.
The Racetronix pump assembly is equipped with an outlet which supplies the factory venturi system which is required to keep the factory system functional! All other pump solutions to date do not have this feature which requires a hole be punched in the bottom of the fill-bucket thereby dangerously disabling its functionality. WARNING: Some copy-cat pump kits use questionable venturi fitting insertion processes which could lead to internal pump contamination and pre-mature pump failure. Racetronix insertion process was perfected and proven after two years of development and field testing prior to production. Racetronix has stress analysis tests to backup our process.
The Racetronix fuel module is equipped with a one-piece soldered wiring harness made from mil spec. Teflon silver-plated wire. This is the same type of wire used at the factory as Teflon is the most resistant to deterioration when exposed to modern pump and race gas. This harness has a Walbro connector at one end and a GM factory connector at the other which plugs directly into the pump module. No crimping, splicing or wiring adapters are required. A truly plug & play wiring solution. Due to the age of some F-LS1 cars much of the in-tank connectors are black / corroded. The Racetronix harness replaces all these questionable components. WARNING: Some copy-cat pump kits use fuel resistant plastic wire which is not as durable as Teflon. As well they do not have a new connector installed on the end of the in-tank harness which forces the customer to re-use the questionable old factory connector body. This has also let to some confusion as to the proper polarity forcing some people to remove their tanks again in order to fix the problem!
The Pumps
The Racetronix F-LS1 pump assembly is based on Walbro gerotor pump technology utilizing the most powerful armature and gear set currently available. Walbro has set the industry standard in high-performance in-tank pumps. Walbro pumps are QS9000 certified and are used as OE equipment in many production performance vehicles such as the C5 Corvette. Walbro's gerotor design is able to maintain high pressures while providing high volumes as well. This is done by squeezing the fuel out between two gears instead of pushing it like most factory vane pumps do. (i.e. factory F-LS1 pump). This positive displacement design makes high-performance Walbro pumps small, light weight, quiet, efficient and reliable. Tests in the field have proven the Racetronix F99+ system will support upwards of 600RWHP and 700RWTQ in some applications.
The Wiring Harness
High performance fuel pumps need a good power source in order to perform to their full potential. On average a Walbro high-performance fuel pump requires twice as much power as a factory fuel pump. Factory wiring is just enough for a factory pump’s power requirements because manufacturers need to save cost and weight. Racetronix field tests have shown that running a high-performance fuel pump off of the factory wiring can cut pump performance by 30% or more. Problems with failing factory relays, connectors/terminals and fuse contacts are also common when excessive load is placed on them.
The Racetronix plug and play harness is designed to remove all fuel pump load from the factory pump circuits while providing the pump with a new heavy-duty power source. The Racetronix harness gets its power directly from the alternator's battery terminal. The voltage at the alternator’s output is typically 1-2 volts higher than at the battery when the motor is running (high charge/load conditions and WOT). This means that your Walbro high-performance pump can provide as much as 20% more fuel in some cases. The Racetronix harness uses high-quality automotive-grade wire which is resistant to oil, gas, heat and rot. The main length of wire in the Racetronix harness is ten-gauge stranded copper. This is three to four gauges thicker than factory wire which helps reduce resistive power loss to almost non-existent levels. This helps improve pump performance by as much as another 10-20%. High-quality weatherproof fuse holders and 40 amp silver-contact relays are used for maximum reliability. The Racetronix harness has factory-type connectors which plug directly into your fuel pump module/sender so no cutting or splicing is required. The Racetronix harness has a redundant ground upgrade as it is necessary to improve the harness on the negative side of the pump's supply as well.
Racetronix harnesses are considered the best by which all others are judged. Attention to detail in every Racetronix harness is evident at first glance. Racetronix spares no expense to ensure reliability, ease of installation and performance.
All Racetronix harnesses are assembled using our computerized crimp-quality monitoring system and then circuit checked for the utmost in reliability. As with most Racetronix harnesses the F99-FPWH is backed by our limited lifetime warranty.
There is nothing worse than being in the middle of an installation only to find that the manufacturer has skimped on installation hardware. This is why Racetronix supplies a spare ATC fuse, 25 black nylon wire ties, silicon grease and stainless mounting hardware with each kit.

We don't know where you got 550RHWP from but it is pretty high for a pump alone even on a N/A motor. Too many vendors quote the outer edge / best case scenario for HP support. You must maintain a safety margin of at least 50-100HP between what your motor requires and what it the fuel system is actually capable of supporting.

Look again. The price difference is $50.00 between our kit and a generic Walbro pump and a harness. The harness itself is the same price.

Fitment and function.... there is no comparison. Remember Racetronix was the first to develop and release the F99 product years ago. We have done our homework on this stuff. Yes, there are knockoffs now and they have their problems. That is what happens when you try to copy someone else's design without the research and field testing to back it up. We set our pricing in order to maintain the level of quality everybody has come to expect from Racetronix. We also re-invest into new product development so when new cars come out (i.e. new Camaro) there will be a quality fuel pump kit available. It is easy to sit back and copy someone else's design, reduce component cost and slash the price and that is all they have to offer. The racetronix for 1998 kit is 264.99 plus an additional 38.99 for a new filter sock taken from your link in your sig.

The Walbro is 99.00 shipped and the hotwire kit is anywhere from 60-80.00 shipped.

For the 99 and up cars cutting up the bucket and trying to get it right seems like a pain in the ***, for us 98 guys the Walbro is pretty straightforward

I also Pm'd you about setting up a group purchase for all those interested in your Racetronix Kit and never recieved any kind of a response

You make a very high quality straightforward kit but the walbro setup is quite cost effective...

The 1998 kit costs more to produce and fewer are sold hence the price point. The F98 kits do come with a sock now.

Racetronix does not generally run GP's because it puts us in competition with our dealers. Unlike some manufacturers who backdoor their dealers we do not. Any type of sale would have to be coordinated with our dealers so that nobody gets left out. GP's also create other problems b/c there are always people who drop out at the last minute leaving everybody else hanging. It is always best to run a limited time special that way it is open to anybody.

Thank you for clearing that up for us and the 40.00 sock being included into the price brings the cost back to a reasonable amount...

Any chance we will see any type of special in the near future?

He said the '98 kits come with a sock, he did not state that it was the larger size stock sock that is $40. I'm sure it's the same sock you get with a Walbro pump.

PAGregSS

How did you wire your walbro pump up? Is there much to it? Can I get a play by play idea of what is involved?

My Racetronix was installed when my motor was forged 3 1/2 years ago. It's a very impressive pump. It is of military quality. I can speak to that from an electronics standpoint ... retired Army Master Sergeant here. As the 1st Cavalry Division Artillery Communications Chief, I was directly responsible for many installations of tactical communications equipment, including Colonel Raymond Odierno's (now a 3-star general and 2nd in command in Iraq) HMMWV (HUMVEE) with 100 amp alternator kit and associated wiring. From an electronics standpoint, the wiring and electrical components and operational reliability is of top notch material and as good or better than what was provided through military channels.

I also was the Apache Training Brigade Communications Chief and worked on the avionics/electronics for their SINCGARS radio equipment on OH-58D's, AH-64 Longbow's, UH-60's, MH-60 Electronic Warfare Intercept birds, AH-1's, CH-47's, UH-1's, etc ... about every rotary aircraft made.

You 10th mountain boys at Fort Drum need to know your territory before you try to dispute what is and is not of miltary grade. The Racetronix fuel pump is a better overall pump system hands-down.

Thanks Jeb99ta. I worked for the Navy for almost 10 years, and I agree with your observations.

Quick Reply: is it worth buying the racetronix pump or just get the $100.00 walbro?
