Default Purpose of fuel tank pressure sensor

What is the purpose of the pressure sensor on top of the tank bucket (looks like a map sensor). If it is related to the evap, and I remove the evap, do I still need the sensor?

Default tank pressure sensor

emission related , I believe it senses pressure so ECM can verify no evap system leak. if no pressure system therefore would have a leak- bad gas cap or leaking evap line

exactly, you would have to disable the codes from the pcm if you ever remove your evap and vent into the world.

I concur...it is related to EVAP. You just have to go in and delete the codes related to it, and that's it.

+1^ I removed all my evap stuff, and used the pcm wiring for the fuel tank pressure sensor instead for my autometer fuel pressure sending unit.

I wouldn't plug the hole because you will have pressure build up inside the tank. Just add a hose with a breather filter on the end of it.

Edit. If you talking about removing the sensor and pluging the hole then yes. But add a hose and breather to the nipple that would go to your evap canister.
