Default Aluminum center section

What benefits does an aluminum center section yield? Is it purely for heat disipation?

I think it has to do with distortion over time with heat and the aluminum.

Yes, I am running a nodular case as well. It is a stronger yet heavier piece.

Cast iron is ok for stock. Nodular iron is tougher than basic cast iron and better for higher performance appications. Aluminum is for weight reduction and won't be as durable as cast iron for a DD.
