well im gonna swap to a spool, and i figured while the center section is out why not make a fill and drain to make things easy.

can i just drill a hole and tap it and put a plug in it

The housing is not thick enough to hold a thread. Moser has housing fills and drains that come with a weld in bung and plug. I use a step drill after I predrill with a 1/4" drill.

I just drilled and tapped into the housing for drain/fill plugs on my Moser housing......used 1/2-20 plugs for both. Just don't go crazy tightening them down.

This is a scary thread. You almost need to drill the hole and have a female drain and male fill bung welded in place to do it properly. Do not just drill and tap the housing there would only be maybe 2 good threads to hold it. The fill would not be too bad but I would hate to have that done on the drain. That is just asking for trouble.

The bottom of the housing where I drilled/tapped my drain was almost 1/4" thick. I use a gasket under the head of the drain plug and thread sealer---it's never leaked a drop. Nothing scary about it.....it's a fluid stop, not a head bolt.

he has a point.
my moser housing(circa 1999) is at least a 1/4 thick if not more. my fill is actually threaded into the housing in the top, with a bung and plug welded to the bottom.

you can never be too safe. a bung and a plug is a no brainer.

Hack your **** up all you want then. I prefer to do things the right way. Sorry for my advice.
