Do I need a 12 bolt? Would like to make car hook. Planning on 315 35 17 drag radial. I would guess I am making about 370rwhp? I do not go to drag strip, just street use and occasional hard launch. Car has stock 10 bolt with 3.23 rear, 37,000 miles on rear end. A-4 trans. Just want a few opinions, I would rather not spend 3 grand for a new rear if I don't have to!
ive go friends that have ran into the low 10s with there stock rearend that will take a beating but i would not hit it with a slick or nitrous but you should be fine but it is man made so you never know

I agree. Generally a 10 bolt behind and auto will far outlast the same one behind a manual. My car makes power in the mid 500's and has been down the track several times without any issues.
10 bolt I have a car that I work on 2002 with an auto 3000 stall, 150 shot nitrous and 10 bolt setup the backlash and just upgraded the axles, and sprays it out of the hole 2 years and still holding up and he does use slick 10 bolts are stronger than most think.

Verdad Gallardo Depends on what breaks and how fast you were going when it happens!!! Most of the time whatever breaks on a 10 bolt happens when you launch. You'll hear the noise and the car probably won't move after it breaks. But yes, dangerous stuff can happen if and when it breaks. Like loosing a tire, rear brakes ,etc.
