iF YOU PUT THAT IN A WELL WORKING aUBURN IT WILL MAKE NOISE. Mainly because they use metal to metal cones and not fiber clutches or torque biasing gears.

LOL, Yea exactly. I would say it's worse with Auburn diffs. not so bad with other limited slip type posi units, and I've never heard the noise in a torque biasing rear with only gears in it (no clutches).

Not me. I'd never put a synthetic oil in a differential that relies on friction to work. I'm not even sure if manufacturers of those diffs recommed it or not.
Thats just my personal opinion though, but it also explains my experience with synthetics in rears. Now I will use synthetic in an all gear diff.

whew,,i went through hell this year getting my rear end in and right,,,,and i just noticed this sound the last time i had my car out....i did use the blue tube of cheapo stuff from advance auto. (Eaton Posi in a Moser 12) looks like i will be changeing it out again. (i use Mobil 1 gear oil) So if i go to my local GM dealer, i can get fluid that will work with my Moser 12 bolt? (basicly a Ford 8.8 if i understand it correctly), and i only need to use 4oz's? (or whatever the bottle size is)

If you have a torsen I dont beleive you do, but for the guys with auburns you need at least one and as most guys mentioned most of us put in two because one sometimes doesnt cut it.

Auburn also specs non-synthetic for their differentials. At least the ones that were SLP/factory optioned.

My bad on the resurrected thread, was reading a thread with a link to these one, and was not thinking. Delete if neccessary.

I was told by someone on bob is the oil guy that depending on when the 99 model was built, it could have one differential, or the other.

OK- let's say the above is correct for a second. Let's say I have the diff that does NOT require the additive but I put the additive in there anyways just for the sake of saving me the time to find out which diff I truly have-will it cause any issues?

Hopefully someone can verify, but I think I recall hearing/reading that adding the additive where it is not needed and or adding too much may cause the limited slip to not function properly.

Please don't quote me as I'm not sure, but if you really want to be safe, have someone take a look at the open differential, I think someone may be able to visually identify a auburn or a torsen.

oh and i added you on psn

Adding modifier in an all gear driven 99+ rear end wont hurt a thing.

Ford LSD stuff has been known to make a worn posi (clutch style) slip more and require rebuilding. Have had happen to multiple Ford 8.8's and would have full faith in this happening to a clutch style GM diff. It is one of those things where yes, the unit is worn, this just shows the issue much sooner.

I always used GM's stuff and never had a problem. Eventually went to a Moser with a Tru-crap diff and thats a whole nother story but just some personal exp I would like to share...

When you buy gear lube, if it already contains limited slip additive then the bottle will say "LS" on it.

http://www.lubegard.com/C-196/LUBEGA...lip+Supplement

This is the best on the market, and is all I use in my 9 inch with a Trac Loc. Read the info on it, plus it does not stink.

Anyone that sells Lube Gard should have it. I have a local auto parts that carrys it and a local transmissoin parts supply house that has it. Lube gard makes some of the best transmission additives as well.

Advance Auto used to carry the transmisson additives but stopped.

i have a moser 12 going to drain the fluid and seal up the leaking cover. Im going to use 80w-90 NON synthetic and some gm additive. How much additive do i need? How much fluid for the moser? What is better the GM additive or the lube guard?

Back up top-

The season is around the corner and I need a definite answer- Do I, or do I not put in the additive (LSD Additive) in my 1999.

The fluid I purchased from GM is a Synthetic fluid.
