I've heard that 3.42 gears are a decent swap, but who told you that 3.73 gears are too much for an auto? I daily drive my formula with 3.73 gears all the time, and it's also an auto.

Well first gas was going to be a little more and second driving on the highway was a thought too with a lower gear.I mean theres all pro and cons, its all what you want and what set up you have.Dont forget ls1 bird you need to tune your computer for your gear swap.

no one told me 3.73s were to much gear im wondering if 4.10 is though. i have 3.42s now thanx to an axle swap out of a totaled ss. i go to the track probably about once a month and to some old swamp road almost every friday and saturday night with some friends. what kind of gas milage can expect with 3.73s n a thunder racing tune?

If you are an auto, you DON'T want 4.10s unless it's a strip only, or pure city car. the gas mileage will suffer badly with that gear ratio. I average around 24 mpg mixed city, highway with my 3.73 gears.

3.42 would be perfect for you as a DD or track visit. I sold my 3.42's from my SS to a friend that put them in a 00' Z28. Car runs mid 10's on spray and he DD it until selling it. He had the best of both worlds...performance and everyday capability.
