Default Need help getting axle out of Moser 12 bolt

I have buddy of mines t/a that has a moser 12 bolt in it and his axle seal is leaking. I pulled the wheel off and get the brakes off. I looked at it and it doesn't look like it has c-clip eliminators but the axle doesn't budge when I try to move it. I pulled the shaft pin out to see if it might of had c-clips but the axle doesn't move inward at all. I know this axle is not pressed in or anything and I took the backing plate bolts out just to be sure. This axle won't budge. Any help or ideas guys?

The Moser 12 bolt I participated on had plates with 4 bolts accessible thru the hole in the flange that the tire rim mounts to.Once those 4 bolts are removed, the axle can come out,but typically with the use of a slide hammer. The axle bearings(and safety collar)are pressed on the axle and the bearing is generally a force fit into the axle housing.

the bearing comes out with the axle..............it will take some force to get it out. Use a rubber hammer. It is just stuck in there. As long as you have the backing plate bolts out it should come out using a hammer to tap it out. I didn't even take the cover off when I took mine out to replace the seal.

1/4 drive 9/16 will reach in there they are teflon lock nuts and as they said the retainer is what is used on these cars because thats what holds the brakes .

Going to go pick up a slide hammer now. I don't want to damage anything by beating on it. Thanks guys.

I am assuming since it hac c-clip eliminators the axle seal is going to be different like an o-ring of some sort?

Not happening guys. This axle is stuck. I must have beat on it 50 times with the slide hammer and it didn't even move a **** hair. Is there something I am forgetting? All the bolts are out and I even took things apart that I didn't need to according to you guys but I guess I will put the slidehammer on it tomorrow and wail on it. Any suggestions?

Bolt a chain to the lug studs and snap the chain like a whip, it'll pull right out ( if you have a good length of large chain lying around). Good luck,

Okay tried the chain thing and it didn't work. I even took the chain and wrapped it around the axle flange and i have a parts car next to the car I am working on I put a floor jack sideways up against tire on the passenger side of the parts car and put the chain on the jack and tried to pull it out that way and to no avail. I tried the same thing and put the slidehammer to it and it still didn't budge. I guess I will be calling moser tomorrow to see if they can offer any help.

Okay, I called moser and they said the same thing all you guys said and I just tried to pull the other side out just for the heck of it. Not happening. The driver side won't budge either. Could the axle be bent in the housing or could the splines be screwed up in the spider gears and axles? That is all I could think of that might be holding it in.

I have a suggestion. Did he buy the rear from moser. Have the invoice. If so call them and ask what all is in it as for a unit. and will you post pictures of the backing plates . I have had problems geting them apart. I have had to take a cumalong then hit the back of the axle the a 5lb hammer.

Ok guys got the axle out. It just took a lil more persuasion with a bigger slide hammer to get it out.

When I had to help a buddy without a slide hammer or anything else we pulled the wheel, unbolted the plate, put the wheel back on and lightly tightened the lugs and I just sat on my *** in front of it and gave it 2-3 good jerks and it popped right out. Just make sure the car is supported very well on the jackstands.

Sounds like the Moser axles I had.....tolerances are extremely tight. They do take quite a bit of persuasion......glad you got them out.
