Default ? mini spool ?

ok my rear end in the firebird, i dont think it is really hooking up right, if i go straight and smash the gas, it spins both, but if i make a right hand turn only one tire spins, and the rear end is making some noise. i want to get some different gears, and was considering a mini spool, the car is driven on the street, but not a whole lot, just a weekend ride, would a spool be a really bad idea. i know how they work just want some advice and opinions.
thanks

For what it's worth, I have used cone, clutches, lockers, and mini spool. The mini spool will track the most true and be the most predictable. When I have drag radials on my junk you cannot tell it's there except for some understeer in tighter turns and have to give it more gas in tight turn situations. With street tires, it will cause tire hop and all of the bad things you hear about tight turns with a spool. It's all about what you can deal with, I don't mind the drivability flaws of the spool, but my girlfriend hates the way it acts.

the thing i like about the spool is that it seems pretty reliable, very simple design, and i dont see my almost stock car breaking it, and i dont dirve on the street a whole lot. and they say that cheaper isnt always better, but this is also about the cheapest way to do it, and i dont see many flaws, my buddy broke spool after spool, in his iroc but it was a fully built motor, runnin mid 6s in the 1/8th, a lot more power than ive got, and that was all that broke on his rear end

I wonder what you have now
If it's stock and an LS1 4th gen f body, you're going to need a stock open diff case to put a mini spool in.
If it's a limited slip, stock LS1 car it either has a Torsen or an Auburn. You can't put a mini spool in either of those so put a stock open diff on your parts list.

For mostly a track car, occasional street car you can get away with the mini spool. Stock carrier is pretty cheap depending on your gear ratio. Driveability factor is consistant and you know what to expect. Let me know if we can help you out.

You can swap any posi out for a spool. But for a mini spool you need an open diff.

There is no full spool for a stock 7.625 10 bolt differential. Yes, you can drive a mini spool on the street with no problems. Just give me a call tommorow and we can go over all you options so you will have a clear picture on what you can and can't do.

I daily drive on a mini-spool. Only time that it is aggravating is when pulling into or backing out of parking spaces on street tires. When I have my slicks on its not noticeable at all.
