+1.

I love my 4.10s...even stock it was a night and day difference, let alone when I add the slightly larger cam (242/248 ). I forgot what cruising rpm I was at though with the 4.10s...I think 80 was like 2100 or so. Not too bad.

4.10's in a 10 bolt with 400whp, sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Just hope it doesnt take out anything else with it if it goes. I run 4.30's, but in a 9", its just over 2k rpms at 75mph. I like it just fine

There is not a favorite..... there is only one choice... and that choice would be 4.10s.

Anything less is a waste of time to install and anything more will be irritating at HW cruising speeds IMO.

Unless of course you are boosted, and then you shouldn't be driving a stick anyway.

4.56 would be a bit much for a DD, wouldnt it?

I have been looking into the 3.90's myself it would be a big difference from my stock 3.23's but I have a 4L60 so 4.10 might be alittle much for the highway.

Also, most boosted cars would prefer a lower gear ratio because longer gears are more condusive to building and maintaining boost.

Anyhow, I wouldn't worry about it now. If you decide to go turbo/supercharger..... gears will be the least of your expenses.

OP... Get 4.10s and be happy. I love mine. 1st is just enough to get you out of the hole, 2nd is deep enough to catch traction, and 3rd is long enough to get you through the 1/8 mile... or if on the street, it is perfect for the longer pulling gear.

On the nitrous (550 rwhp), 1st lasts for a very short period of time. second is a blip, and third is where I typically start to pull.

However, with the old 3.23s, I would bog in 1st, second was reasonably long and a good gear, but 3rd would fall out of my powerband.

I decided on 3.90's. It seems to be a happy medium between 3.73 and 4.10, they won't be going in for a couple weeks, so i cant say how i like them yet,

Thanks for taking the time to explain to me.

Just for debate though, if it's a street car, wouldn't you want a manual so you could down shift and be in the boost area?

If you are going to spray the car on the street 3.73's will be the easiest ones to hook up with. If you only spray it at the track then the 4.10's will be the ticket..... great on the street N/A and great at the track with N20 and a stock sized DR. You just have to decide what your car will be doing the most street or track

Not at all, I run 4.56s in my 01 SS and I love them, granted the 1st gear is short and you have to shift more but you cant beat the fun factor at all

RPMs at 80mph are like 2300 not bad at all but most speeds here are 70mph which is good, still get 290 miles to a tank, city/highway mix.

I know I will blow it up eventually but the car rarely sees the track, but it pulls like a ****.

A stock 4l60 (A4) will not hold up to most boost applications. Most race built transmissions capable of being downshifted so long as you don't let off after you down shift.

Anyhow, most of those guys have set-races. I mean, how often does one 600 + rwhp car roll up on another 600 +rwhp car.... just outta the blue?

I can tell you that at my power level (450 rwhp NA) I rarely find good races that aren't set-up before hand. In that case, you just stay in whatever gear you plan to run at.... typically 1st/2nd.
