Favorite rear end gear ratio (m6)
I have a 400 wheel horsepower camaro (confirmed today... woop!) without spray too...
anyhow, I want to pull a bit harder, what gears should I gear? Stock 3.42 right now, I can get my hands on some 3.73's or 4.10's pretty cheap with an install kit.... suggestions anyone?

4.10's are probly the most favorite here. When I get my 12 bolt I'm going to get 3.73's. I like the way the car drives with the 3.42's now so I don't want to change it much. This car is a street car not a track car so I'm not looking to cruise down the high way and have the rpms up very high.

4.10s with M6. no doubt! I'm 400hp with m6 and 4.10s perfect setup for me. great on the highway in 6th. I needed the gears for the cam so its like a new car to me. I have the the 10bolt housing and I would NOT go this route. I had no choice at the time so i had to do it. I hit 3rd and pinion turned to a powder. lol. my car is a dd so it had to go back on the road quick.

i had 4.10s in my rearend before it blew up. I got better gas mileage with them than i do with the 3.42s. I have heard of people with 12 bolts going with 4.56 gears with good results.

I have always been told by many shops 4:10's in a stock rear equals bad news bears. I had experience with 3:73's when I had a formula, and I liked them. (it was an M6) 2nd gear and 3rd seemed to pulled much harder, 1st was still kinda a dud though. lol

I have 4.10s in my 7.5" 10 bolt with no problem. I'm pushing ~430hp, and have given it some hell with a couple launches and clutch dumps, but I don't make a habit of it. I shift it hard when WOT.
My tires are 295/18 gsd3s, so they have some decent grip, but they aren't drag tires by any means.
Holding up fine, no noise.

Sounds like you have 3.42s.

If you have a ten bolt with 400 RWHP and you go to the track, it's going to break. With that said, I have found through trial and error that 4.10's break more often than 3.90s. The pinion is a bit larger on a 3.90 so the tooth contact area is stronger. When I get my S60 in a month or so, I am going with 4.10s again because it can handle it.
