Exclamation T56 with 2.73

I am in the middle of an M6 LS1 conversion on a '95 Trans Am. I have Moser 12 bolt to use (3.73), but cannot justify using it during the next year. My fiance' lives about 200 miles away and i need to squeeze the most mileage from it to be able to visit her bi-monthly; of course, once we are living together, the 2.73 will get dropped for the Moser.

My daily driver '98 with an A4 has offset t-tops and the offset is growing worse which is both killing my mileage and my tires. The '95 will become my daily driver once the 98 is stripped....

My main question is, will a 2.73 even work with an M6 or will the torque output be too low to be functional?

Thanks in advance

Just played with a gear calculator, you'll be better off and get better gas mileage with 3.73's cause you'll be able to use 6th gear. with 2.73's you'd be at 1700 at 65mph in 5th, 3.73 would be 1600 at 65mph in 6th

The 6 spd is not geared for 2:73's..You will get worse gas mileage. Just trying to pull in 1st is going to get you worse mileage alone..

I dunno about worse mileage. really depends how fast you are traveling.. I have 3.23's in my 6spd atm and I can't use 6th gear unless I'm speeding. but I get 32ish mpg going 75-80 which I think is pretty damn impressive. 2.73 is just too low though man.

2:73's is too low, and it'll wear the hell out of the clutch on take offs too. I'd do at least a 3:42, bare minimum. Even a 3:42 really isn't enough gear to get a 3500+ lb F-body moving around.

After my tranny swap I drove for a while with the old 2.73... not too bad. Just difficult to move on a ramp

So wouldnt u be in 6th gear at 65mph around 1,000 rpm??? i dont see how 3.73's give better gas mileage than 2.73's

lugging the engine like that for long distances is worse than loosing a mpg or 2.

I had 3.23's and M6 so i was trying to see what the differences in gas mileage are.
