Question Swapping Gears?

Guys I have a 2.73 rear gear in my car now with a two series carrier. Would like to put in a set of 3.42's perferably or 3.73's. What all do I need? If I could just find a complete rear out of a factory 6spd car I would be good, but they have gotten so expensive to pick up. Thanks for any help.

I just switched from 2.73 to 3.73 gears couple days ago, did the swap myself. If your gonna do it yourself, make sure you have bearing pullers/installers, magnetic base dial indicator and race punches for the pinion races when you replace them.

I got the Richmond Sportsman series 3.73 gears for the 2 Series carrier and an install kit with bearing, bolts etc.

I thought about buying a used rearend with 3.42 but they all have around 100k+ or there pretty expensive, cheapest local i found was $400.

You got that style..he is trying to use a 2-Series Carrier with a 3-Series Gear..I know this cause I have the Gears laying around to hook him up with..

Basically the question is for those that have done this..what spacer kit did you guys use to put a 3-Series Gear on a 2-Series Carrier, if it's possible to do it like that.

Its possible to do that but I would never do that. Why run a spacer if you have the option to use a thicker gear that will fit?

Speedinc. sells the spacer im sure. But i got all my **** from summit.

It's easy to put a Stall in..just make sure you have the Pump Notches in before you bolt the Tranny up or you will have problems..

I'm not doing a stall till I rebuild the tranny. Just need to know if its worth the effort to swap out everything in a 2 series or just buy a rear from a 6spd car. Thanks guys.

I put thick 3.42 gears in my series 2 carrier. My theory is that buying a used rear is buying someone else's problems. You have no idea what has been done to that rear, how it has been beat on. Whereas I got new gears, new bearings, and I know they were set up correctly. My theory has worked for the past 15k miles, anyway, 400 rwhp.

Trust me, i would've been able to live with 3.23 instead of my stock 2.73.

+1 on not buying used stuff like this.

Honestly, you could buy a used 3.42 rear with low mileage but it wont be cheap.

I swapped my gears out for around 260 total. I have brand new everything, and for 260 you might be lucky to find a used rear with less then 80k.

I would just swap out everything.
