definately i know it wont hold forever i just thought it was cool. im looking at truck 9" now ive found a couple for 100 bucks so im just gonna go that route. ive just gotta make a torque arm mount for it and drill the axles for the right bolt pattern along with weld the spring mounts on but it shouldnt be that bad

has anyone tried using a 8.8 from an explorer. they are chaep and come in a 3.73 and 4.11, i had one fabbed up for my tj about 5 yrs ago and its probably a little stronger than a d44 but not as strong as a 9. it might be a little narrow for a fbody, i need to check on that and the center section is a little offset. on my jeep we just cut all the brackets off the 8.8 and also cut the brackets off the d35. welded the d35 brackets on to the 8.8. i was being cheap since i didnt want to drop several hundred $ on a bracket kit but it has held up nicely.

the problem is THE 10 BOLT!!! v6 mustangs even have bigger differentials then ours. the 10 bolts can be strengthened but its a waste of money. or you can go another route. drill and tap 2 more bolt holes then you can have yourself a 12 bolt

I would rather just put down the extra money for a 12bolt or 9inch rather than spending money on a rear that has been proven over and over to fail. Not that its not POSSIBLE that the built 10 bolt hold up ,but spending the money and taking a chance is not worth it IMO.

I do a tun of final drives in my shop and the stock rear is marginal at best. Even with a stock engine. The way to go is a ford 9 or a chevy 12. Welding the axle tubes is a must on press in units. The ford 9 is a very strong unit.

i have an article about building a 10 bolt, i just dont know anyone who can do it cost effectively. basically talks about straightening and welding the tubes, eaton posi, better axels (yukons in article). pm me a fax# if you'd like a copy. claims 25% stronger & can hold 425 rwhp. thx

Problem like stated; same as a 12 bolt eventually the way the TQ. arm is mounted it will come apart. Not to mention it's still a 10 bolt. Might would last on the street with a 6sp car. I dunno about the track. However this might not be too bad in a auto car.
Never know till you try. I personally wouldn't waste the $$ on "beefing" up a 10 bolt....they will brake anyhow.

I would angle the braces some to make it stronger. Having them straight with the axle doesn't give them a lot of leverage to hold the axle tubes from moving. Just my .02¢.
Also, is that diff cover made just for this purpose, or is it a IRS diff cover that also works for bracing?
