Default researching rear diff replacement

I'll be installing a monster LSx engine in the coming months so I am researching a replacement for my rearend. The current one is stock 2002 limited slip with 3.42 gears (6sp manual trans) that has had a recent rebuild (long story), but I'm getting some serious wheelhop. Anyway, we all know the stock rearend can't handle 550+/hp.

I'm looking for ideas on how to go. I have a ballpark quote from the place that is dropping in the engine, for $4000 due to the fabrication that will probably be involved.

This is an extreem street car, so I will probably stay with the stock 3.42. I don't think I would go over 3.73's if I do change them.

I'm looking for the newest technology that can really handle the power. I might look to push the engine up to the 600 - 750hp range in the future.

Other changes include 2005 Corvette Z06 brakes and tuning the suspension.

Thank you very much in advance for your ideas!

I went with dana 60. Massive and a bit heavy but strong. Pro racer buddy has ran junkyard dana 60s for years in his low 9 second vega and his brutal big block street 1st gen camaro and never a problem.Never even changed the oil out in his race vega.

My strange came in two weeks. It bolted in . My bmr lower control arm brackets fit perfectly . I did have to go to a bit smaller rear sway bar my hotchkis didn't fit that great but my new spohn does.
Rear end is pretty darn quiet no loud obnoxious whining strange uses think they said oem gears in their rearends now.
You can only get 3.54 for lowest but its fine hardly a diff from the 3.42s. Really with a stick car would go with 3.73 unless you are going turbo like me.
The dana gears can take huge power they are the largest ring and pinion of the rearends and the dana posi heard is good for like 1000hp. I didn't go locker or spool goign to see how the tru track holds up. I am going to auto though shortly and that will help and the car won't be tracked very many times its just a wicked street toy. Max power will be likley 1000rwhp combination of boost and small shots of spray.

I like my dana so much that likely will buy one for my 96z which want to procharge and eventually do a 383 or 396. That car is auto so likely stick with 3.54 again.

Wasnt it a year after the C6 (2005) came out before GM released the Z06 (2006)?

Oops, my bad, I meant 2004. I had a 2001 Z06 and a 2003 Z06. The brakes were awesome... it took some time to get used to my 2002 SS brakes because they aren't as good....

Thanks!

Many people will tell you that a 9" rear w/spool is damn near indestructable. I'm sure the 9" guys will chime in with more info eventually, but there's my vote.

The Moser M9 fabricated rear in the above link is what I would go with. It comes with a chrome moly torque arm and transmission crossmember. This rear is light, it weighs the same as the 10 bolt.

Here is a video about it.

I've been looking at the Strange S60 for the F-body. Probably 3.73 gears. Does anyone have this setup here?

Thanks

I like the fabbed D60 housings, figure if they are strong enough for offroading a 40"+ tire to hell and back then I can keep one together on the street. You mentioned a $4000 engine install I hope that is mostly paying for the building of the actual engine and not just labor. If not I would shop somewhere else
