So let me get this straight...
If I took a 8.8 pumpkin from a Fox Body and had my 10 bolt tubes welded to it all I would need is a gear set, carrier, and axles made by Moser plus get my torque arm situated and that's it?

There's no problem using an offset rear, since you're cutting the tubes and welding new ones on. As long as the pinion is centered then you'll have no issues. As for stock diffs.....Look at what the blown mustangs have been holding up to. Personally I'd go aftermarket since it's still cheaper than a 9" but that's me. You could probably get away with some decent abuse on a 31 spline unit....

oh ok, thanks........I have a few more questions. Ok, so if I find a 28 spline 8.8 with 3.73's. Then I cut off my 10 bolt tubes to use....From what I've read I can run my 10 bolt axles in the 28spline 8.8 rear.......Am I correct so far or did I miss something?.....ok my final question is will the setup hold up to an old LT1 that wont be anything more than a cam only car and never go faster than a 12.50's?

Ok thanks, I just wanted to make sure I had the right idea
Also for the guys that are going to run the mustang axles. From what I've read, if you use those axles you'll end up 2" narrower on each side. I found 2" spacers on ebay that you can bolt to the 5x5 1/2" mustang axle and then you can bolt the 5x4 3/4" chevy wheels onto the spacer.....it seemed perfect for what you guys are doing, then you can run the wheels your running now. I just thought I'd throw that out there, oh and the $70 per pair shipped

not true .....the bowl is biger that the one in the 10bolts for about 1" so if you put you regular axels + 1" the result is 1/2 "+ on each side

No you can not used the gm axle in the ford 28 spline carrier. The gm axle is .100" shorter at the c-clip end, which means the axle does not properly lock in the spider gear and against the main locking pin of the carrier. The excess movement may be enough to allow the c-clip to come out. I have built this rearend with the same idea. I just ordered new axles from jaws gear.

Hey guys, I wanted to provide a link to my 8.8 project. Not quite finished yet but getting close. Hope this may help with some of your ideas. My axle was out of a 92 explorer and I just used the stock 3.73 gears and 31 spline carrier.

I agree it may work using stock gm axles. Because it may work, does not mean it is the right thing to do. After all you set up rear end tolerances to .007" backlash on gears do you want .100" play in the axle at the c-clip? Not me. I guess each member can be their own judge on this issue.
My sleeves were machined by a local machine shop. They charged me 80.00 for the machine work and they work great!
