I drove it about 40 mile today getting new inspection and such. I would say with the temps and bad roads around here it still wants to spin in 1st and grabs pretty hard in second no wheel spin after about 30mph and my car is pretty light with a bunch of weight mods. Top speed as of today 125

Good to hear this is still working well!!
Ive located a `00 Crown victoria differential that ill use (approx an inch narrower then stock), an exploder 31 spline track lock unit with 4:10s on it all for $70!!
Moser has said $295 for them to make me 2 axles, in the crown vic width, 31 spline and with the 5x4.75 bolt pattern!
Im thrilled, and dieing to get this project into motion

I'm still making phone calls though I'm looking foward to seeing a couple more of these builds before I do mine. But mine is a few months out, once snow is on the ground I'll tear into mine.

have you seen any t/a setups with an 8.8? ive been researching this, because the more i think about it, with any kind of real power, that mini-ladder bar setup will shock the tires and cause alot of tire shake going down the track. im at around 400 hp na and a little over 500 on the spray. i saw a pretty interesting t/a setup for mustangs, but its underneath the ds, not beside it like the f-bodies.

Yard by me`s newest crown vic is a 2001
Got my upper control arms today! Pick up my donor diff tommorow, and im gonna get crackin!
Think ill build it as a 28spline setup for now, and swap it all out to the 31spline 4:10s over the winter.

you can also weld the spider gears in the carrier to act as a spool, since you're just doing the 28 spline temporarily. the 28 spline axles are pretty darn strong, most people break the c-clips if anything. might be a good idea to buy c-clip eliminators, thats what i did with my 408 c4 87 coupe making about 450ish on motor. i did have moser 31 spline axles though. no problems with the axle after that. welding the axle tubes is EXTREMELY important, thats the main failure point of the 8.8, having the axles spin in the housing.

I have a 8.8 in my 2000 WS6 that i built a few years ago, and works perfectly, i took a 90 mustang rear and cut the axle tubs off and welded my factory f-body tubs on the ford stump and took a pos.unit out of a Explorer 31 spline carrier and had Mossier make me a set of f-body axles with ford 31 splines for $250.00, Im now in the process in getting a 8.8 open Carrier and installing a mini spool, The clutches dont last long on at the track.

Good to hear.
I intend to weld the brackets to the stock tubes as the OP did.
Moser will make me axles, their $295 now for the pair. To get the f-body bolt pattern, 31spline and the crown vic length.
I dont know if ill weld it solid, cause it will be lucky to see 1 pass at the track, i just want something to stay together as my 10 bolt didnt last long before it got all upset and howly haha.
If i can get my 10 bolt to shut up, ill run it the rest of the season (3 weeks for me), and build up the diff while im at home during the school year

If you cant find a 8.8-31 spline Pos.unit, let me know i have three extras laying around, thay look like the pics above, . Im going minispool

I use a adjustable torque arm for a f-body. I made a bracket and welded it to the stump, works perfect ,I took it to a small track here, and i cut a 1.51 60ft. Hope to do better when i get my stall converter restalled to 4400.

on a serious note, if you guys are seriously looking to thrash on this rear, i would DEFINATELY look into swapping 9in ends on the rear. While you are already ordering axles, why not go ahead and do it. Major pro's to this mod,
you relocate the location of the bearing, the load is moved. basically it is more modeled after a full floating rear. second, when you go to the press on bearings (9in style) you use bearing retainers instead of c-clips. if you seriously sit down and think about it, its not much more to do the conversion vs. the benefits from it. if you dont, and you want to run a spool... add the price of eliminators, and the cost of machining the axles to fit. as far as the torque arm mount, here is some food for thought, ill attach a link of how i want to do my torque arm setup. i am also running the mini-link setup for now.
