Default 10-Bolt worth it?

I found a 10 bolt out of a 2000 trans am about a half hour from me for sale. He said it has 2.73 gears, 3 channel with 45k miles. My question is what is the difference between the series 2 and series 3 carrier? I have a 2000 WS6 6 speed with 3.23 gears.

I don't have the cash to get a 12 bolt or 9 inch yet, so my plan was to get this one, put gears in it, then use it until it breaks and have my current rear end as a back up.

Thanks

2.73=2 series, 3.23 or 3.42=3 series. You can't use your gears in that rear end but if you ever wanted to go to a 3.73 they make one for the 2 series carrier. Its called the "thick gear"

So I would just need a set of gears made for a series 2? Say I did want 3.73, all I would need is the gears and a install kit?

Thanks

I think that they also make a spacer kit to use the 3 series in a two series.

Did you swap 3.23 gears into your car? 6-speeds come with 3.42s from the factory, right?

Ok. I'll look into that too, I want to research this before I go ahead and buy this.

Nope, the WS6 comes with 3.23s from the factory, as well as the SS.

All 6 speeds came with 3.42s. Doesnt matter what model they were. Auto SSs and auto WS6s came with 3.23s. Yes a install kit and a set of aftermarket gears for a 2 series carrier will drop right into that rear end.
