S60 questions
So simple questions about the S60. Its for a a4 99 WS6.
I'm thinking that the most I'll ever have is 500-600 rwhp so...
1. Are they loud? Gear whine?
2. I looked at the weights in the sticky they aren't that telling...is the 60 really a anchor out back?
3. The car needs to be daily driver. Will I really notice a difference from the 3.23's to a 3.73 as far as acceleration? (not concerned with gas mileage)
4. Everything can break...is there a solid reason to go with something else?
I have had my WS6 since 02. She deserves to be made as fast as she looks. Slowly, she will be transformed into my project. With 140,000 miles and now on my fourth 10 bolt I'm ready to move on with my wifes blessing of course. I figure that I might try to move up to konis at the same time, does anyone have any insight into konis and s60's?

I run an S60 with 3.73 and spool on the street and the gear makes min. to no noise. This is a very strong setup and worth the little extra weight IMO.
let me know if you need any pricing

If you make sure the axle vent is working it will be a wonderful rear. Bang for the buck there's not much better in the axle world. Noise wise, the axle itself doesn't make any noticeable noise, however I would recommend an adjustable torque arm and depending on which you get could transfer some more road noise than you're used to.

I have dana 60. Pretty quiet some decel whine on mine but not 100% sure its coming from the rear as can make it go away but stabbing the brakes on and off?
I went with 3.54 which think are pretty good all around gear and lowest I could go with the dana.
If you have a decent stall then think you will also be happy with 3.54 for street some track and if you want to do a lot more track stuff then 3.73 would be about as high was would go. Course m6 cars usually 3.73 to 4.10 are nice.
You should still notice decent improvement around town from the 3.23 to 3.54.
Get a nice 3500 or so stall and you should have a great streetable combo.

Just installed the S60 in the 96Z... It was a job to be sure... but I've always wanted a Dana and ended up buying one from another member on this site; who bought it and never installed it... he had ordered it with the 40 spline gun-drilled axles, a spool and the 5.13s... and while I initially was going to pass on the 5.13s... and order up a set of 4.10s like I had in the 10 bolt; at the last minute I decided to give'em a try. She's bolted up to an A4 and buddy... it is RIDICULOUS.
I've intentionally not run the numbers on Mileage... but rest assured there are Motor Yachts getting better mileage; but she is incredibly quick off the light...
Took her to the track and because I couldn't fit the salad shooters on the 5/8the lugs... I was running my street tires, so it's a no brainer that we couldn't launch... but NA, with the slicks still in the back seat... a floor jack, the impact gun, the bottles, tools... and all of the crap I usually off load prior to runnin'... we still pulled 8.4s in the 1/8th... more or less pulling a trailer. Our best 60 was a 2.1... So all things considered... its a kick in the pants.
The Best 60 on the 10 bolt was a 1.5 so knock the 9/10ths and pull about 150 lbs of cargo and we're low-mid 7s NA... with a full interior LT1-Z.
