Default 04 gto rear ead, in a 69 GTO

Has anyone every tried or heard of someone putting a rear end out of a 04-06 GTO into an A Body 69 GTO? I'm just starting the process of doing an LS conversion into my 69 GTO and thought it would be sweet to update the rear end with IRS while I was at it. Any thoughts?

The 10 bolt rear that is in your GTO is much stronger than the '04-'06 GTO rear. I wouldn't go through all the hassle, as I do not think you would be happy with it. Bob

I would look at a ford 8.8 IRS instead of the 2004-2006 GTO rear.

thanks for responding,
I got the rear end with a doner car and thought IRS would be nice. Although I'm not huge fan mixing GM and ford I have heard nothing but good things about the ford 8.8. I have seen a few companies make IRS rear ends for muscle cars, but I was hoping since I had this rear already it would be a cheap alternative. Some how my 10 bolt isn't posi. I am putting an LS2 in the car so I want a rear that will grab with both tires.

12 Bolts out of A bodies (Chevelle, some Buicks, Olds (auburn type) may get pricey, so look for a 10-bolt out of a '71 -72 "A"- body, that is posi/limited slip.

You'll find them in GTO's,442's Buick GS cars. They're 8.5", and are a bolt in.

Most '68- 1970 10 bolt models are 8.2". They're Ok, but why bother?
Sell your late model GTO IRS setup, to keep the cost down.

btw, get some boxed lower control arms (upgrade in the Susp. option on those A bodies back then, and found around on the websites or ebay.

You'll be fine with an 8.5" especially with an auto.trans.
