!noise! MIDWEST VS. 12 BOLT
which is louder (gear noise) i have installed a midwest chassis fab 9 in my camaro with everything upgraded and it has a very very loud gear noise! i have removed center and reset the gears cause they where very loose, also installed rubber spacers on the torque arm for noise. because if everything is normal i may want to sell the mwc rear and guy a 12 bolt! thanks

do you have an aluminum center section? Aluminum center sections are going to be a lot louder. Also if you have rod end suspension instead of poly, it will be a lot louder. One other thing is if you have a short tq arm with a cross member, it picks up a lot of noise and some vibs from that also as there is no rubber mounts on it and its right under your seats. I get some noise from mine as well, I just turn up the radio though lol

If the noise is too much for you, I'd replace the Richmond gears for Motive gears. The Motive gears will generally be quieter. Bob

my friend bought this MWC 9" and had same problem as you. Richmond gears, aluminum center, etc and had a lot of gear noise and trq arm noise. He got annoyed spending all the money for the noise, he had it sent back to Eric to get looked at. When it came back he sold to me and i replaced the center section with a spool. Mine has like no gear whine at all and little trq arm noise, actually quite quiet.

you have one of the best gears money can buy...
Richmond up until the last couple months has been the only USA made gearset you can buy for a 9" ford diff. We were using the US Gear brand originally until they became no longer available on the market, then went to Motive Performance which were extremely inconsistent. some were noisy some were not, just the same as the Richmond. we started to push the Richmond brand because of the issues with Motive because there was simply nothing any better on the market. there is now another brand which we have started to use and so far has been good about noise, ease of setup, yet withstand the abuse of street/strip use. We spend alot of time, probably much more than we should, on setting up these gears to be sure the assembly is correct. we do not manufacture gears and we do as best as possible with the products available to us. rest assured we use only high quality components and take extreme care to make sure every component that leaves our shop is done right.
