Your gears in that rear are shot. The pinion has made contact with the carrier and you can also see the damaged pinion teeth in the pics. That was most likely due to the pinion nut backing off.

The carrier is still probably good but you can clearly tell the pinion made contact with the carrier. The only way that would have happened is if the pinion nut backed off or the pinion actually snapped in half which doesn't seem to be the case since you were able to drive it.

I would say it needs a whole new rebuild but if you are on a tight budget, just a gearset and a good clean could get you back on the road. For how long....who knows?

Gotta love the 10 bolts with DR's!!! I put Nittto 555r's on my WS.6 and myy 10 bolt lasted less than 2 months before it crapped the first weekend i really went hard on it. My cars mostly stock too not even bolt-ons. Im with outlaw on the pics you can clearly see where the pinion scarred the hell out of the carrier, not good at all, i'd say def rebuild or jus say fu*k it and put a MWC fab 9" 35 spline axles\ w/ detroit locker in there. I jus bought a used rear for like $350 for now but will definitely be beefing up rear real soon if i even make it through this one.

I hope they changed out that carrier case too, because the pinion came loose and hit that carrier. When it does that you can get fractures in the case. Just my .02 but if you were here at our shop you would be getting a new positraction carrier as well, with all new bearings and a housing flush.
