Default stock 10 bolt...is this normal?

Is it normal for the axles to slide in and out about 1/4 inch? I noticed it today when playing with my brakes. I can grab my tires and slide it in and out 1/4 inch.

The axles are only held in place by the clips on the ends inside the carrier. A little bit of play is normal, a lot of play indicates something is worn.

I doubt the c-clips are worn. It is rare for them to wear out due to the fact it is a hardened piece of steel. Most likely your positraction is worn allowing there to be extra play between the end of the button on the axle and the cross pin shaft. 1/4" is excessive and I would definately have it checked out. You may end up needing a new positraction.
