going synthetic when non synthetic call for ?
My 1997 camaro z28 m6 manual say using 80w90 with gm additive, can I run synthetic with gm additive , reason I want run synthetic cause it last longer, any one here running mobil 1 75w90 with gm additive, does it whining ? I heard mobil 1 gear oil make gear whining.

If it says to use an additive then you must have an Auburn posi which is a clutch type posi, auburn recommends that you do not use sythetic, they say you must use non syn. When the rear end shop installed my Auburn and used a 75-140 and additive the diff would squall because it wasn't releasing enough, they had to go back with regular 80-90 and additive to fix the problem.

We run the synthetic oil only when the circumstances or the enviorment dictates the need for synthetic. Street car not creating an abnormal amount of heat will not need a synthetic oil. As stated above, a lot of aftermarket positraction manufactures are steering away from the synthetic as they are finding it has been problematic with the clutches and clutch surfaces.

I find it odd that yours calls for 80w90 + additive while mine calls for synthetic 75w-90 with additive. I do not have the Auburn posi so idk why it calls for that. Did all the later ls1 cars call for synthetic + additive?

Did you ever determine if you even had an auburn so that you would know if you had to use dino rather than synthetic?

Oh no dude the hate of the smell never goes away, and really you could put more than 7-8k on the dino oil, but you are definately not hurting it. But one thing that could help you is if you get a girdle, like a MAC or a Jegs girdle (differential cover) they have drain and fill plugs in them so you can just use the plugs instead of pulling it off.
