Default is the rear diff cover thicker question

i was told to get a trans am diff cover because it was thicker than my z28 cover. he told me this because im putting in 410s and it would help support when the gears "flexed" when u stepped on it. does this hold true??

a thicker cover will not help ring gear flex. I assume they are suggesting a TA Girdle Cover as it supports the main caps and keeps the ring gear from deflecting the caps.

In this case, TA does not stand for Trans Am - it is a company that makes aluminum support covers to replace the stamped factory piece. The jury is out on this one from what I've read...on a 10-bolt, it is like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. My 12-bolt came with one, and all it does is leak

Bandaid would depend on the amount of abuse the car gets IMO. I have installed thousands of these covers on various applications and NEVER had one leak. Install error maybe? We also scuff the surface so it gives the sealant something to stick too.

Install error is at least partly to blame - or perhaps it is my stubborness to switch from a gasket to RTV. Regardless, I'm not tearing that bitch back open until it is time to replace the ring and pinion, which depends on how soon Motive 4.11s for a passenger car 12-bolt come off back order.

Which, in the "oh, by the way" category: what's the status of my order?
