Yikes!...that was a high risk/high reward statement, but unfortunately you have landed on the losing end. My 1999 Z28, which I bought brand new, was a 3.23 geared (performance axle option, GU5) automatic transmission NON-SS car that came off the assembly line (GM, not SLP) with the same aluminum shaft found on an SS or WS6.
I could also post the SLP option brochure for SS models, if you wish to see that even SLP didn't offer any sort of driveshaft upgrade. But I'm sure you're already well aware that WS6 was not an SLP product in the LS1 years, so there's really no point in even looking at SLP docs on this topic. Thing is, GM didn't offer an SS/WS6 specific shaft either. The aluminum shaft was used on base model LS1 M6 cars as well as autos with the GU5 option...SS(WU8)/WS6 was not required.

Ebay: used OEM SS driveshafts can often be had for <$300. Aluminum, lighter than CM, almost as light as CF, inexpensive to have rebalanced before installation so then it will be as smooth running as CF.

Yes and yes. Do you understand that this same item would have been issued from GM on a GU5-equipped (performance axle) Z28 (non-SS), or Formula/Trans Am (non-WS6)? If so, then you understand that there is nothing SS/WS6 specific about that item (just like the LS1 engine itself, not SS/WS6 specific).

Triple yikes!!!
![EEK !!](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_eek2.gif)
Well,...
...why would you single out just the WS6 and SS cars if you understand that other trim levels of LS1 F-body were also available with the aluminum shaft?
And then why would you reply to this...
...with this...
...if not to indicate that there WAS some sort of specific WS6/SS driveshaft?
Is that wishful thinking on your part, or just deflection?

Sorry this thread got a bit derailed folks; we were dealing with a problematic member and having a bit of fun at his expense. We're leaving some of the posts behind for legacy reasons, but many others have been removed.
I'm going to lock this one down as it was a very old thread that was recently resurrected - if this topic needs continued tech discussion then a new thread would be in order.
Thanks guys,
-TECH Staff.
