Same boat for me. I just put 3:73's in my Stang and from stock it really made a seat of the pants diff. But it seems kinda loud when you let off of it.
Now I want to do my M6-DD TA. But don't want to hear all the noise. Is there such a thing as 4:10's that are quiet as stock? I know the 10" is a weak link but I'm pretty easy on my **** and I don't hit the track. People that know me say the 10 will hold. But the damn noise!!

^ If you're easy on the stock rear and stock gears it will last. I've had my car (second owner) since Jan 03 and still on the same rear. I put the NT05's on not long ago and took it for a couple hard rides around town and purposely shifted HARD to see if it would break loose.. It didn't but I did pick up on a couple small "clicks" in the back end that made me think the rear wasn't liking what I was doing. I could feel something odd through the chassis when I shifted. It wasn't there before. Almost a clunk, but not as hard. Harder than a "tick" though.. but that would be the right word to use for it..
That just sounds simply badass dude!!! Everything ELSE in my car is setup to take the abuse, but I would just LOVE to know that I can leave on a HARD launch and not have to worry one bit about it!! That would sell me to wait it out for a 9" and 4.10's right there! To NOT have the worry about breaking the rear.. That's why I spent the extra coin on my trans and clutch anyway... Not to mention chrome-moly parts for the rest for the car.
Hey Bayer this is (smokinss on NEFBA) I love my 4.11s in my 9 inch. I had 4.10s in the 10 bolt and had the rear rebuilt 2 times and it didnt matter they would always seem to howel after a few good passes with drag radials. Now Ive got the 9 inch and leave at 6600rpm with slicks and that rear doesnt make a noise. Just food for thought. You might want to start saving for a good rear. And like you my SS doesnt see the street but a couple times a week.

My differential blew up (original Auburn) so I'm in the process of rebuilding the 10 bolt with a Detroit Truetrac and going back to 3.42 gears.
I had 4.10's for 4 years, ever since I had the car. They are absolutely useless for anything other than 1/4 mile drag racing. You have to constantly shift (5th gear by 35MPH cruising) and they kill your top end on the highway. They are also more susceptible to breaking (10 pinion teeth vs. 12 stock) and actually have higher parasitic loss.
And despite what anyone will tell you, shorter gears like 4.10's only help in 1st gear to get you into the powerband sooner. After that, your car's acceleration is entirely dependent on horsepower, so your car will not be any faster after 1st gear.

I autocross with 4.10 and a M6. Really enjoy the 4.10's there. Gear whine is there but mostly only heard on engine breaking. Love the extra torque available in 2nd gear. Spend most of my time there and have never had to shift to 3rd myself.

had 4.10's in my ten bolt. now have them in my 12 bolt. broke the diff with the 3.42's, then spun the side gear clutch with the 4.10's. figured why spend another 600 on a 10 bolt and bout a 12 bolt. ramen noodles are bad for the first couple years.

so after i ordeed my 9 inch i saw this post and im hoping i didnt mess up lol, i have the m6 and i wanted to up grade but not to aggressive so went from 3.42s to 3.70s , was thinking 4.10s would be over kill for a DD but, u think the 3.70s ill see a diff and be happy with or what, and i liked my 3.42s never thought about regearing till i got this axle so bumped it up a notch (but also never been in anything with 4.10s so) if so how much would it be to redo it to 4.10s? or u think its worth it?

Ive had 4.10s in my dd for around 25000kms i really dont know why you bother with anything else unless you had a turbo.
4'10s all the way ive also got a slightly closer ratio t56 1-4 i can put down 10L/100km or to you guys 2.64 Gallons/62Miles < lol not sure if that makes sense to you guys i converted it to imperial.

2.64 Gallons/62 Miles = 23.48 MPG
With the closer ratio T56 would I be correct in saying that you have a Monaro?

I have a moser 9 with 4.11's. after going from 4.10's in a 10 bolt to the m9. there is a noticable difference in power loss. i think the 3rd-to-4th gear shift would be ten times better if id chosen 4.56..... dont get me wrong ladies,
the all around street driving is way better going from 3.42s to 411s.
However I honestly feel like i should have went 456!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
