Explain a Spool to me
I hear alot about spools and other systems for a solid axle.
What are the differences and pros/cons to each?
I looked in the sticky and I think this thread could be a good one to add to the links list.
Thanks

A spool is straight up hooking the left and right tires together with a solid piece of metal. No give at all. **** will chew yours tires up driving around sharp corners doing street driving. But they are super cheap.

Good Link Bob.
Tire wear definitly increases but on top of that the tire scallops and often you need to burn that shiz off to get a clean surface.
One thing that I thought was amusing was pushing JL-ws6's car from the garage, to his trailer but the car needed to be turned to the left and straightend out to the right. The car had a gutted body, no motor, no trans, just a 12 bolt w/ spool and bias plys as well as skinnies and manual rack. That car was VERY hard to push and turn at the same time. Kinda embarrasing.

yea. spools far from the only way to get both your tires to spin. spools are just cheap, simple, and strong compared to the rest, but as said, will take away from the smooth operation of a limited slip unit.

I just have seen the term spool tossed around locally and on here so wanted some clarification. The detroit or wave on Brutes website seem the best bet for a street car.

you can run a locker with an m6 just fine. it'll be harsher with an m6 but it's all personal opinion. unless you see a lot of track time, i'd stick with a limited-slip unit though. if you get a good one, your probably not going to hurt it on the street.
