When buying a wavetrac, do they all come with the newer second generation? I assume it's thicker and stronger than the first generation wavetrac.

Let me know how that works out. Nice to see a local on here. I live in Holiday Shores. I hang around the Wood River area.

Any update? Did they redesign this piece?

I was at the track last Saturday and my Trac-Loc was opening up. We were talking about this piece and a couple of the guys there said they had seen breakage in the 800 RWHP range so I guess that is the magic number. I think on a lower HP car it will just take longer but will snap... unless they changed it!

Supposedly they improved it and I now have the improved version but I haven't put it in my rear yet. Will probably try to get it in sometime this winter.

it has been redesigned in the outer shell area. they basically just beefed up the case in the lightened areas, but other than that it's still the same. regardless of the fact every Wavetrac diff is still lifetime warrantied and Moser stepped up and covered the entire situation very promptly for this customer.

To be totally honest, I'm not sure I will try to run it at the drag strip again. Even with a lifetime warranty it is still a pita to have to replace it. I am considering getting another center section so when I don't plan on going to the drag strip for awhile I will just run the Wavetrac on the street and when I plan on going to the strip I will put the center section in with a spool. Even with the improved case I am pretty sure I could break another Wavetrac at the drag strip.

Unfortunately I was on Vacation when this was posted but.... I am not suprised to see this happen.

I do not have their warrentee info infront of me but unless they are covering Labor, Parts, and possibly any subsequent damage lets say to the casing, axles, then it is not a good deal. Great as the diff cost alone for a tru trac is bananas and I had to buy a 2nd one. But if I frag other stuff, and I do not do my own labor..... that kinda sucks.

IMO which has been this way all along. IF you make power, and race weight is not on the lighter side and you are still running a stick, get a SPOOL. Some have lived on a Eaton HD posi and at least its rebuildable. So there are options. OR go to the dreaded Detroit Locker.

Ultimately your individual set up will dictate what you can run successfully.

Good luck on the rebuild.

Did they pay shipping to and from of the damaged/replacement unit? How much does it weigh?

I think the 35 spline unit is just shy of 16 pounds; and supposedly lighter than the 31 spline Truetrac.

This is the original 35 spline unit design.

This is the 31 spline version which has the redesigned case and looks similar to the newer 35 spline units.

When did they release the new ones? I bought my wavetrac a week ago. Either way I won't make enough power to break one but just knowing would be nice.

Whats the price of a Wavetrac? I am building a 9 and heve been reaserching which posi to put in. I will never make the power some of you guys are but still want something that will hold up. I have seen the Trutrac breakage, dont want a spool, or locker. I dont want to rebuild a clutch posi all the time either.

I wanna say a wavetrac is about 800ish much more expensive than a regullar posi but its supposed to be good for 1000 hp..

I pretty sure mine was about $2010 for the complete center section. A wave trac by itself is about $800.
