Default How much drive shaft play is to much? 1.5 inches?

ok so i bought a ds off a member on here and put it in my car and the yoke in the tranny is showing about 1 and a half inches i know that they should be atleast 3/4 to a little ove 1 inch but im kinda worry about this as the car makes almost 700hp to the wheels on 10psi.

For more info i have a 12bolt and the tranny is a th400 i mean there is still alot of the yoke on the shaft and in the tranny case but im not sure if this may cause a problem or anything.

Any help would be great!

I would try moving the rear forward about 1/2", as you do want 3/4" to 1.0". Bob

Don't mean to hijack. But Bob, what's the correct driveshaft length center to center?

That depends on the slip yoke also....

Most times you want 1" of play.... but if you have a slip and the ground hub is 7" you can have 3" exposed.
Really depends on a few pieces not just one.

We use the x dimension on the above chart. 10 bolt/12 bolt is 44.25, 9 inch is typically 45.25. Bob

mine is 44 3/4" center to center . th400 to 10 bolt. am i ok? there is about 3/4-1"of play. i got a good deal on a used one in town with 1350 u joints and swapped in a napa 447 for the rear. figure if nothing else I can have it shortened but dude said 10 or 12 bolt. and he is active in our local car scene so i doubt he would try to take anyone . thoughts ?

Yup, you're good to go as long as it was in the loaded position when you checked it out. What I mean is the weight is on the rear end. Bob

Hum, I have about 5/8 max out of my tranny when I swapped my rear. If I move the rear back any my rear tires will be rubbing the fender so I stopped. I moved it back forward just enough to get them off the fender just enough. So my wheels aren't quite centered
