Dang...thats a huge bummer! I have read your entire thread and I think Im going to go with the 3.90 gear as well. Just not sure if I want to use my stock 10 bolt or not. Would be a shame to spend the money then grenade it. Are the 10 bolts holding up ok? My car is very similar to yours.... 02 WS6 with M6 dynoed it couple days ago and it put down 403 rwhp. Decisions ...Decisions...

I'm on vacation this past week, so I woulda had the car back fri night. I had plans on heat cycling the gears and bearings fri--->mon at a nice easy pace, probably knocking off the entire 400-500 miles to break em in right. Now? I go back to work. So I have to get the car Tues night and wait until next weekend to start the process next weekend instead of enjoying some nice crusies during a holiday weekend. I've emailed Jawsgear and am awaiting their response on this issue hopefully hear something after the holiday. Surely they've had complaints before on this pinion seal.............

OK fellas so far so good knock on wood. Gears and new diff went in just fine, babied the TA home for 18 miles. Let the car cool down for 1.5 hrs. Fired her back up and took her for another 18 miles drive, not on purpose just happened to be 18 miles.

Now I have yet to get on it, I am going to baby the car for the first couple hundred miles. I have gotten through the first 5 gears so far, and the rear is as quiet as a mouse! Even quieter then before the gears went in because all of the bearings were shot and they whined for the past 2 years. I will keep updating as I go.

I went from 4.10 to 3.90. Picked up 2mph in the 1/4 cause I was hitting the limiter with the 4.10 in 4th. Love th 3.90, but honestly I would mind try a set of 3.73. The 3.90 will hold up better than the 4.10 too.

OK elcipsed the first 100 miles sunday, and tacked on another 25 at night. Acc to what i've read on here from some great shop owners after the first 100 you can drive it further then 20-25 a pop but still without hard acceleration so today i tacked on 55 miles, 27 each way round trip to work and again no hard acceleration and no issues! So I'm at around 175 miles with no issues knock on wood!

I Own a 02' SS M6. Pulls 326rwhp bone stock. Just ordered motive 3.90 master kit, Proform girdle, and IAT Module(it was 20 bucks why wouldnt I) from speedinc. Can't wait to feel the 3.90's! Figured they would be stronger than the 4.10's yet close enough to not really feel the diffrence. Seems like every body on here that has them has nothing bad to say about them. Kind of a no brainer. Girdle will add a small sense of security. 30yr tech is gonna set them up for free, should be into the whole thing for 433.00 Cross my fingers for no noise. and we'll see if the seal is correct.

I am sure the seal will not be the right one. Most of the kits come with the standard 10 bolt pinion seal. Our cars have the second design. When I rebuilt my rear end I could not find one at the usual neighborhood parts stores. However I was able to get one at the local carquest. If I were you I would have one on hand as it sucks to be in the heat of the install only to find you dont have the right seal and the stores are closed. You can always return it later if you did get the right one.

Yea there is a GM dealership just up the street from me. think I'm gonna go the safe route and pick up a pinion seal. local driveline shop told me I should replace the axle seals too, but I dont realy think that would be a must. Car has 20k on it thoes should be fine. Gears showed up today. excited to set em up and get em going.

Axle bearings and seals ran me under $75 might wanna do it as cheap maintenance while you're in there?? And yes!!! when he takes the old seal off and starts working check to make sure the one in the kit matches!! This way you can go get the proper on eif it doesn't.

While I'm here an update. Just crossed 300 miles, again no issues. Gonna touch 100 degrees the rest of the week here so I prol won't be driving her until the weekend. Might get it up to 400 miles then change the fluid and then start driving it a little harder
