3.90s or 4.10s
for a lt1 6speed car thats cammed and full exhaust that is daily driven in nice weather and doesnt see a sticky tire. the rear end needs to be freshened up and i dont have the big bucks for a 9" nor would i put it to good use. i want some steeper gear to get moving quicker but dont wanna just sit and spin when roll racing
so if it was your car 3.90s or 4.10s?

The fact that it never sees sticky tires would make me lean towards 3.90s just to keep the car a little more useful in 1st gear, but really you can't go wrong with either. If you intend on more power later you'll end up needing a new rear before your gear ratio becomes an issue.

i have owned 4.10s and 3.90s, the difference was minimal at best in the seat of the pants feel, but its all about your preference. if you want a lil more in 1st id go with 3.90s, if you wanna get out of first faster go with the 4.10s. if your gonna be purely roll racing i would go with 3.90s, 4.10s to me was too much for the roll racing scene. i felt i had better luck with 3.42s in the roll racing. from a dig though the 4.10s will be the best imo.

i have 411 and only made 311 hp when i got them and im running a 315 tire and they just spin if you punch it in 1 or second and only if you shift hard to 3erd. i would go back to a 3.90 if i had the money.

I have 4.10's in my car & happy w/them but when I was doin the same research I too was undecided on 3.90's or 4.10's...........& had alot of people & shops tell me that 3.90's
would make more noise??.......so i just went w/factory GM 4.10's & no whine here!

3.90's in my Moser 12 bolt.
I didn't go with 4.10's because I wanted to be able to get on the highway and make small road trips without the rpm's SCREAMING high. Although the difference isn't that much between a 3.90 and 4.10, the rpm difference on the highway is very noticable.
3.90's FTW!!!

so from what i gather there isnt much difference between them when full throttle both respond well and 3.90s gets a little more out of first gear. also read that a 3.90 gear set is a bit stronger gear set just based on teeth thickness in the ring and pinion. i know its going into a ten bolt but that kinda helps me make the choice a little easier.

I'd probably go with 3.90. I can't give it more than half throttle in 1st gear. It's fun, but wish it would hook and go.
2nd is almost as useless as 1st, sometimes.. Especially when it's cooler out. Just jumps right up to 6300 rpm with the *** end fishtailing. Damn goodyear F1's

I voted 3.90, but I like 3.73s the best. I had 4.10s and they were great for the drag strip with sticky tires, but that's it. They also did good driving around town if you skip gears so you're not shifting every 10 feet, lol. But I didn't like them for roll racing, and around here the speed limit is 75 on the highway (which really means 80, lol) and the 4.10s turn too many rpm and hurt mileage.

What kind of RPMs do you guys turn with 4.10 on the highway? At 70 and 80 MPH.
With stock tire height.
Nevermind I just found this
3.42 gears @ 2000 RPMs = 90 MPH
3.73 gears @ 2000 RPMs = 80 MPH
4.10 gears @ 2000 RPMs = 70 MPH
I know GM tried to keep the RPM's at 70 MPH around 2000 in the autos. So looks like to me 4.10's wouldnt even be that bad on the interstate, in a 6 speed.

I have 4.10's and like them aside from the highway gas milage. I doubt 3.90's would make it any better.
And for those talking about the traction issue with 4.10's I would suggest getting FULL suspension, I barely spin at all unluss it's cold out.....
