V6 Open Diff?
V6 Open Diff? Okay, so I've wondered about this for a little while now. My car spins wheels extremely easily, even though I've got a basically stock setup and 315 tires (they're Sumitomos, but still). When I say I spin easily, If i'm in first coasting as 15 mph and step on it, I spin. I was looking at my maintenance log and apparently about 60k miles ago (long before I owned the car), the diff had to be replaced. Is there a chance that the dealer jipped the previous owner and put an open differential from a V6 in my car?

Does the back end get loose when it spins the tires? Mine feels loose as soon as its starts to spin. One wheel peel should be pretty easy to verify.
I've just never gotten around to getting someone stand outside the car while I tried it. Would i be able to tell by putting it on a lift and just pushing the wheels around with my hand?
You could just raise the rear, put it in neutral and rotate the driveshaft.
FWIW, a slightly modded V6 on the same size Sumitomos could probably do the same thing, those tires are pretty much garbage.

Open up the cover, it may be due for a fluid change anyways. If you just see a carrier with 4 spider gears then its open. If its a solid unit with little worm gears inside or if you see clutch packs in between the spider gears, its limited slip.
True, but he could have a failed limited slip unit....
I guess either way it would need to be replaced!
I could be wrong but if its a Torsen rear it'll act like an open diff when raised in the air (since there is "zero" traction in the air), I think thats what my V6 with the Torsen does.

An auburn will move both. A zexel torsen is a torque sensing diff and will be act open until torque is applied. If there is a torsen then if you move one wheel then the other might not move while in the air.

If you do a brake torque with either limited slip rears you should roast both tires - easilly with and LS1 
The best way I do burnouts on the street is brake torque just until the tires let loose then let off the brake pedal and stab the throttle. My car doesn't like to sit on a burnout for some reason, could be the rear brake lining material....

I just replaced my front O2s at my friend's shop, and I asked him to watch and tell me what I left behind. 2 marks! Now I guess my quest for traction takes me to replacing my 146k old shocks and springs.
