Default 10 bolt gears and upgrade.

what would be a good gear for my 01 trans am ws6 6spd. i just installed cam and heads car should make 425 440hp when done. i was thinking 410 gears what do you guys think. should i upgrade to a eaton or albur locker ther only 500 from ws6 store and upgrade axles. or is the 10 bolt not worth wasting money in. what gear whould be best thanks for help.

Everyone here will tell you to buy a 9". You can risk driving the car with the 10 bolt and maybe have it last if you keep it on street tires. If you put any sort of sticky tires on with a hard launch, say goodnight.

you can buy a spare 10 bolt for cheap on here..most of them already have gears.. or you can play it safe and save for a 12 bolt or a 9"

i would say 4.10's are the most common for 6 spds

if i put a eaton locker new bearrings and gears in it and stronger axles it should hold up ok for a while it will only get ocaasoonal track use mostly dd. what 12 bolt fits in an f body. whats the average cost.

The 12 bolt and 9" are both the same price when you buy them aftermarket. The 9" is a bigger rear end, and has some other advantages to it. Both are strong rear ends no doubt, but the 12 bolt tends to whine after hard launches, etc. The 9" is definitely a better setup for a 6sp. Seems like everyone tends to say MWC is the best vendor too.
