Painting rearend
I just ordered a Dana 60 and I plan on painting it black when it gets here in a few weeks. I have a somewhat stupid question. When painting it what areas are good to stay clear of/not get paint on? I tried searching and I cant really find a good answer. Anyone paint their dana with POR-15? Thanks.

Hi,
coverage on por-15 is roughly 30-40 square feet per pint. 60/80 on quart and that is pretty conservative......good luck and have a blessed weekend.....

Tip: Get the rearend very clean of oils because it will fish-eye if you don't.

I cleaned with soap and water, and used POR's metal prep which is a zinc compound that is supposed to etch new metal. I had a couple of very small fisheye problems on the cover, but that was about it.
FYI the rust on the housing formed in about 10 minutes as i was letting it dry. It wasnt present at the time the rear arrived. Definately need to paint, or it will be a rusted mess at first wash.

Just tried to be careful. I may have got a couple of dots on there, but i'll just hit it with a wire brush before i install the brakes.
Wear gloves, and long sleeves. I have that **** dotted on my arm, and it does not come off unless you scrub it with something abrasive.

For those spray painting I just did my 9" housing yesterday. I have a BMR black hammertone kmember and lca's and drop brackets. Rustoleum has a spray paint you can get right at wal mart also called black hammertone. It match's perfectly. Texture and all.
