Default 2.73 to 3.73 gear change

ok so im looking into dumping the 2.73s for a set of 3.73 gears. im leaving the stock 10 bolt in for now. my cars a 2002 z28 a4 107k miles im not replaceing the rear for about another 1-2 years anyways but for now im tired of the car being a dog down low i had a modded civic keep up with me in first gear the other day till it shifted to 2nd then i pulled like 6 lengths easy before 3rd but down low its just annoying. just want to know how much of a change 0-60 and qm times i might get from the swap. dosent have to be exact just wondering if its worth it time wise. id appreciate any help i can get thanks

ok, expect people to tell you to get a stall first because you will net more overall performance and shave more time off you et with it than you would with a gear swap. this is true but as far as the sotp feel off the line and regular street driving i'd say do it. it will feel like a comletely different car going from 2.73's to 3.73's. as far as your 1/4 times go you should expect to shave about .1 to .3 with a gear swap and with a good converter about .4 to .6 give or take.

I agree with poltergeist.

On my car the gear swap alone did not add much, but when combined with the stall (Yank SS3600), it was a big difference.

Also stop manually shifting your auto. A stall is worth every penny. Gears I wouldn't waste money in the 10 bolt.

If your not keeping the 10 bolt I wouldn't put 500+ dollars into it, but if you are a 3.73 swap is a good choice. You should notice a significant increase in accelleration. Maybe not the "feel" that a converter gives, but it will make the car faster. And you won't run into any issues with overheating the trans that can come with a high stall converter in an otherwise stock car.

i don't believe a gear swap will make your car much faster than it is but it will feel much faster off the line. a good stall converter "absolutely will" make your car faster and that has been proven over and over. also i have a 3600 stall in my car with a stock trans and have never had any overheating issues. just be sure to install an aftermarket trans cooler and you'll be fine. all this aside, if i had a 2.73 gear in my car i would swap it out for 3.73's. that would drive me crazy to have a car with decent hp that feels like a dog out of the hole. go to this post in the gear section. > 3000stall or 3:73s UPDATE <

I did my 2:73 to 3:73 swap just a few months ago and it was one of the best "feeling" mods yet...People say you don't gain much, but I always disagree. It depends on how you interperet "gains" Track...not a ton.....Overall driving....tremendous. It's the way you want your car to feel, best way to say it

The gears with a tune feels like a whole new car, way better throttle response down low, no more shitty 2nd gear lag, snappier off the line, alot better for around town fun, just flat out better than those shitty 2:73s imao. Honestly, I was very disapointed driving this car after I first bought it simply because of my gear ratio. I had a huge debate/old post.. of which to do first stall or gears, I did gears and love them. I'll do a 3600 for next year, but a stall is not what I wanted FIRST, cause I'd still be stuck with 2:73s and I didn't want loose driving around town, knowing I still have to get 3:73s
