Default Hows This Pattern Look?

I Finally got my gears put in my 8.8 (Ford 4.10's). This is the first time im setting up gears and would like to get some opinions on it.

The pictures arent the highest quality so sorry for that. My backlash is also perfect! The specs were supposed to be within .008"~.010"

To me it looks like your drive side has the pinion too shallow. The coast side looks like you need to provide more drag to get a good pattern on more ring gear teeth.
The backlash, which moves the pattern heel to toe looks good, but that changes with pinion depth.
I found the Yukon gear installation instructions to be full of valuable information.
The author suggests changing the pinion depth in large changes (.005-.015) to get a feel for the pattern change and then use smaller changes to get the best pattern. I found this to be good info when I set up my 4.10s in my 7.5 as they ended up being silent for me.
I'm sure some people with more experience at setting up gears will be along shortly.

EDIT: I goofed up and had the drive and coast sides reversed above.

Thanks ill check it out. IF anything i would probably back the ring gear off the pinion and then bring the pinion out alittle.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

First the best way ive found to get a decent pattern is to turn the ring gear instead of the pinion. Sticking an axle in and turning that makes it pretty easy. Also put a drop of gear oil on the teeth you put marking compound on to thin it out. From what I can tell(Not an expert by any means) Your pinion looks too deep. In your picture showing the drive side, the first 2 teeth in the picture show the pattern dropping towards the root of the tooth instead of being an oval across it. But thin the marking compound out some, and get some more pics.

So i adjusted the shims alittle bit and brought the ring away from the pinion by .005" this is what i got.

It brought it over a very tiny amount but still managed a backlash of .010" which is within its limits. How do they look?

That looks pretty good to me, I would try bringing the pinion in .001 or .002 and leaving the carrier shims the same so your backlash closes up some.

i brought the pinion in .005" and it cenetered it even better! i did have to adjust my carrier shims abit, but the pattern is still golden. The only thing is the backlash is around .010" but thats still well within the recommended specs from ford (.008-.0012 'max')

Ya .010 should be fine, one word of advice, make sure you crammed lots of carrier shims in there. The carrier should be hard to get in and hard to get out in order to preload it. But sounds like you should be good to go then. Hope it works out!
