Torque arm relocation
Torque arm relocation I just recieved my S60, and I'm now looking to order the adjustable torque arm (finally have the funds). From what I've read relocating the tq arm to the tunnel brace mount is a great thing to do for cars with good 60' times. I ran a 12.8 at the strip (1.8 60'), so i'm not blazingly fast. My point is, since I'm replacing the torque arm, panhard bar and rear end, should I just go ahead and spend the extra $250 for the Tq arm relocation crossmember? I mean, money doesn't grow on trees for me, but if it's worth it in the long run then I can handle waiting a little bit longer before installing everything.
Any other suggestions (useful ones) would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would definitely do the torque arm relocation crossmember along with your adjustable torque arm. It will allow you to get the torque arm mount off the transmission tailshaft housing to keep so you don't break it and will allow you adjust the instant center. I can get you everything you are looking for. If you are interested give me a call at the shop or shoot me a PM.

I would like to know more about your vehicle to give you an honest opinion on what would be best for you as in long or short arm. Also plans for the vehicle, is your main goal drag racing, road racing, or a combination of the two?

If the cars primary job is street use I would stay with the stock length TA. Then later on you could get a crossmember that relocates the TA mount off the trans tailshaft. You also could make your own TA relocation mount on your stock crossmember. Ive seen this done on here.
Plan for the vehicle is a mild street/strip DD, with the focus being on straight line acceleration, but the car won't see the track too often.
I feel dumb for not knowing this, but what's the difference between the short and long torque arms (other than the length)? When I was looking at UMI and BMR parts I don't remember seeing that...I just saw the ones that mount in the stock position, or the relocated one.

The long torque arm mounts to the transmission like stock (or on the relocation bracket if you have one) and a short arm mounts a little further to the rear with a supplied tunnel brace. The reason people say your handling is slightly reduced with a short torque arm is due to its mount. The mount is a solid bushing and is unable to rotate with the axle like the stock length can.
I have a stock length arm UMI arm, and I really want a relocation bracket when my 9" gets finished. It will help prevent damage to the transmission, help your shifts because it won't lift your trans up, and also help keep your pinion angle in line on hard launches.

I recommend doing the relocation for the fact of eliminating any problems that could occur with it being trans mounted. I kept having bushing and bracket issues is why i did mine. Do it and set it up and move on to the next mod. Stock length with relocation and youll be happy. I went with BMR.

Verdad Gallardo With lower HP cars we generally suggest a short arm for a drag racing application. The only time you will see an issue with a short arm in a handling situation is in tight corner braking, it will want to lift the inside wheel off the ground.

With that being said, why would someone buy a non-adjustable torque arm? Isn't the main point of purchasing an aftermarket TA (other than the increased rigidity) so that you can adjust it to the proper angle??
