IMO: 10 bolt underrated.

Wheel hop is the culprit in my opinion. I broke mine with a catback. Warranty replaced it and now the car is lowered, full suspension and procharged...still with the rebuilt 10 in it. I dont go to the track but I beat the **** out of the car on the street, on street tires.(Nitto nt05) My car is making 600+rwhp and has been for almost 2 years. I plan to get more serious about going to the track next year but for now street duty is fun and she seems to stay in one piece there. 6000 rpm clutch dumps are not ideal but 2500 to 3500 on an m6 for me has been ok thus far.
Also a local guy went 11.3 on spray in his m6, then procharged his and went 11.5s consistantly before selling his baby, to my knowledge the rear was never out of the car for any reason.
I think the rears are underrated but with an experienced gear rower it should last a little while. No disrespect to those who have grenaded theirs.

i think people shift way too hard, especially 1st to second. i dont go to the track so when im flooring it through the gears i shift moderately slow and be sure not to try and chirp the tires.

I had 4.10's in my 10 bolt with 275 street tires. It lasted forever it seemed.
then I went to mt et streets in a 305-35. After a few hard runs on the streets with 600rwhp, the 10 bolt was whining like a bitch. I got rid of it before it broke and left me stranded. Now I have a moser 12 bolt with 4.11's and never looked back.
btw, I havent blown up a motor or my t56 yet either. I am a cam only car with a hsw wet plate 150 kit. Car made 600rwhp on a 150 shot. I have put 14 bottles through it and it still doesnt burn oil....only thing I broke, was the clutch at the track.

To the OP, I agree w/ you. Like said many of times it all depends on how you treat it. Slicks and full 5k clutch dumps and your asking for a tow home or help pushing it on the trailer. Like said before autos lessen the shock. W/ that said I have a friend with a mild small block in his 85 camaro. Runs mid 12's, cuts 1.6's 60ft. He had about 150-200 track passes before the spider gears gave out. Up until then I never feared going to the the track w/ my 10bolt.

My car makes just under 600hp, does 10.7 1/4 mile runs and has seen the track many times. My 10 bolt is 100% stock, the cover has never been off. I think what has made it last so long is the stock gearing, my best 60ft is a 1.71. I know ive been lucky as ive ran the car pretty hard for the 4 years ive had it. A set of lower gears and a bigger stall will probably finish my 10 bolt off, but then again maybe not!

After I bought my totally stock SS back in 2008 I added LTs & some 555s & went to the track. The 3rd track day one of the clips that retain the clutch packs fell out & it hogged out the carrier some. The posi unit was new too as it was dated 5-2008. It also had new 3.73s so it had just been rebuilt before I bought it. At the track my best 60' was a 2.0 & never wheelhopped. I ended up getting an LT1 posi unit from a buddy of mine & installed that with new bearings, 3 months after buying the car. I still tracked the car but babied the launches(1.8 60' best) & the 10 bolt held up, but it was getting noisy. After I did cam & heads I decided to just go with a 9 inch. Just got tired of not being able to run a sticky tire without the rear breaking & launching it like I want, & the damn howling. I know guys do it but it doesnt make sense to keep rebuilding, dumping money into a 10 bolt, especially if you plan on keeping the car for a while. The 10 bolt just isnt a very stong rear. To the OP: You got a 6 speed car with a 404 on spray running 12s? If that 10 bolt is sooo underrated slap a set of slicks on it & see how it likes it?
