Pyle brothers did mine as well and never had a leak.

2 things that can help: apply a small amount of RTV around the outside of the seal before installing and find something to install it straight such as a large socket or pipe fitting. Also remove the tension spring before you install it. The tension spring comes apart. One end is tapered and it basically screws into itself. Take it apart and cut about 1/8" or so off the big end and re-install the tension spring. The seal may not last as long but it should help the leaking.

My 01 Z28 seems to be fine, but with 33,000 miles on it I need to change the fluid so after the cover comes of it'll leak...

The sweating is most likely the vent tube, or lack of vent tube. Get the one from the truck rear and vent it, this stopped my sweating. there is a post that list GM numbers on this, I am at work now, I have the link written down at home, if any one has interest, PM me.

Mine leaks, but I'm gonna drive it into the ground and replace it with a 12 bolt or 9 inch. I hate that it does, but like most, I've never seen a drop of oil on the ground. I guess it just "sweats"...

Leaking seal, had it fixed for free where i had my gears installed. Said the best and cheapest, and ghettoist (is that a word) way to fix it permanently was to take some of that blue sealing stuff and just put it all around where the metals touch (its ghetto but i heard it works)

3 years, 16K, good so far, not that it matters, as the 10 bolt's going bye bye before it breaks....

Default Might be of help!

Well I've seen every rearend I have looked at leak. Except the ones I have rebuilt. GM dealer put 3 in my car under warranty.Still leaked. My axle bearing went out so I decided to put all new bearings and seals in it.When I checked the pinion bearing preload before I took it apart and it had 0 inch pounds of preload. During assembly I put 25 inch pounds preload on pinion. Neverleaked
since or the other 8 to 10 I have built. We all tourture our rears and still hasn't leaked.Well I guess thats a good thing or luck. I think the dealer just didn't no what they where doing thats a shame.

Hey,

I got a question for all those who have had pinion seal leaks. I've noticed about 2-3 teaspoons of liquid has collected on my garage floor right under the rear differential when the vehicle is parked. Does anyone else experience this volume?

I got under the car to try and determine the source of the leak, but it was so dirty that I couldn't locate it. An interesting thing to note is that it looks like some type of liquid has sprayed up onto the exhaust right near where the drive shaft and differential connect. Does this happen when the pinion seal is bad?

Thanks!

Dunno if you want to call it leaking or sweating, but my 00 and 01 TAs in stock form both had a descent residue on them from something oily seeping out on the diff housing, however not a drop ever hit the floor. Now that I had 3.42's put in the 00 it actually leaks. It's only one or two drops every week or so, but it's still a leak.

It probably is sweating. Think about it. If you were in it's place and knew you were about to get beat on by that bad *** motor you'd be sweating too. LOL

Mine never leaked a drop from either the cover or the seal. I only had it for about two years though before I stripped half of the teeth off the gears (twice) and replaced it with a 12-bolt.
