Default creating a rear axle... 8.8/dana/9"/12 bolt

im building a rear end for a guy who bought one of my 1994 camaro rollers

my question is i see alot of people building the 8.8's with their 10 bolt tubes.

has anyone done this with a dana 60? i have a few older dana 60 truck axles so they dont have the pinion snubber section like the car d60's. should i just use that since i have housings already and just put the 10 bolt tubes on that. plus i have a **** load of d60 gears and posi's from the mopars

or should i just go get a 4.10 ranger 8.8 and use that?

planning on having it stock width, but toying with the idea of using the 3rd gen tubes since they are 2 inches shorter each side ( or one inch cant remember)

im going to mini tub the car to the frame rails but use the stock suspension ie. panhard, lower control arms, etc

any ideas? that or weld the f body spring perches and such to the dana axle, just dont know how to go able the axle end or who makes a good end to use

I would stick with the 4th gen ends.
reason being you can run the better LS1 brakes and also being that you are
wanting to run them narrower you will have more end tubing material to work with

If you go with the 3rd gen ones after you cut them off wouldn't they be now way short?

It's not rocket science just get the measurments right and set up a jig and you can knock out some rears.

If you need some axle tubes
let me know I have some from a 10 bolt that I cut up.

the 8.8 would have about 5-6 inches of the tubes left and if i cut the 3rd gen tubes off right at the center chunk that should allow me some room to play with if i slide them in the 8.8 tubes.......hopefully

The LCA and shock mounts will be off if you slide them out to the 4th gen width

The same process can be applied to dana axles assuming the tube ID/OD doesnt vary excessively

i just meant if i used the 3rd gen axle tubes on the 8.8 and set it up to the 3rd gen width basically that would allow me the same suspension dimensions but have, technically a narrowed rear since the 3rd gens are a couple inches shorter on each side correct. im assuming about 2 inches on each side. i cant find the correct figure on here even after searchin for awhile.

Depends what car you are comparing it to

3rd gens used a set width from 82-92. 93-97 Fbodys were 2" wider on each side than 3rd gens, 98-02 Fbodys were 1.6" wider on each side vs 3rd gens
