To Clarify - ALL '99+ V8 Firebird Models have a Torsen Differential
I have been asking a few questions on the boards lately in regards to some mods I will be doing to the differential on my '99 30th Ann. TA and it seems by some of the responses I have received that there is some confusion regarding whether it is an Auburn or a Torsen. So I thought I would post this up to clarify...
In '99 - ALL V8 equipped Firebirds came with the Torsen differential - and also V6 Firebirds with the 3800 Performance Package (Y87). This was noted in much of the release literature as well as publications and I actually have the Dealer Sales Manager In-Focus guide that notes the changes for 1999 and states this information.
Now, it is possible that this was not the case for the Camaro line-up and maybe that is where the confusion and/or generalization comes from - I am not sure. But I definitely have a Torsen differential in my car - not the Auburn.
Maybe someone can clarify for the Camaro's as well. Hope this helps... Patrick

After 99 the auburn was optional through SLP on SS camaros and most likely firehawks too. I cant say 100% for sure if the auburn was available on the firehawks through SLP though. My 2000 SS had the optional auburn and aluminum cover (a useless 900.00 option at that) so thats where the confusion would be.
