took me about 3 hrs to do mine myself when I did the 10 bolt. 1300 is way way too high. im putting my 9 inch together now for 1600. if you have someone find you the gear and install I wouldn't pay more than $650. My gears were $121 a new bearing and seals pushed me up to about $165 total for parts

Thanks everyone especially those who posted some other shops so i have options! i already placed deposit for parts but not for labor. i called cartek and they wouldnt go down. i wanted to do it all in one place beacause i need a tune also so didnt want to be without a car for multiple days. don't mind driving but it sux when you have to get back home and back there with other means of transportation. plus i get tune cheaper at cartek since i've gotten it tuned there before. maybe i'll get a wheel chock hitch (yes my formula has a hidden hitch for towing my bike) with the money i'll be saving and just drive over with my motorcycle and ride bike back home and to pickup car.

Spoke to Josh and he seems cool and told me $325-$350 for labor. I'm so happy i can do this for a reasonable price now since i'm tight on money and i'm not doing this as a nice to have upgrade. I have to do it cuz the gearing with the M6 is slowly eating my clutch.

You're getting nailed on both sides on that quote from Cartek. Find a sponsor here and go buy your own set of Motive's + the install kit. Should run you roughly $350 - $375 for the parts.
In addition to having a high labor rate (which isn't uncommon for New Jersey), they're quoting it by the book. The reality is that they shouldn't have anywhere near 8 hours on the install if they have a clue what they're doing. A very reputable shop installed mine in less than 4 hours and the total labor cost was $350 (tax included).
All in at $700 for the gear swap.

My location is Elizabeth NJ. I talked to Cartek and they said thats how long it takes them (8 hrs) the $1300 is including parts so like $1k for labor. Really 8hrs x $105/hr (their rate) = $840 so im guessing they're adding tax and giving me a rounded up number so i'm not shocked later with tax i guess or if another part is needed.
are other places costing half as much for labor because their rate is half as much or because they are doing it in much less time. because if someone says they'll do it in 2 hrs i would highly question that as from the little i know about it you have to go back in after ur done and check wear and shim possibly multiple times.
Any advice from people that know the process and what is the time it really takes to do it right. i dont want them to be loud and mesh "ok". i want them installed as good as if i was doing it myself. So please help me gauge whether its a rate cost diff. or a time cost diff or both and what times (hours) are correct for this.
Thanks!!!
