Default HELP NEEDED: Need Gears Install NJ (Cartek $1300???)

Went A4 to M6 and have 2.73's so i need 4.10's asap in my 10 bolt. (~320 RWHP so keepin 10 bolt cuz cash is low)

Called Cartek in Garwood NJ as they are my first choice:
they said install and parts: about $1300 (said 8hrs needed)
(not including upgraded rear cover)

If this is fair let me know and if not please provide other options where i could get a top notch install.

Again i want a 100% quality install and don't want to overpay. Any feedback is greatly appreciated ASAP since i will be giving deposit today probably.

THANKS!!!
Chris

You would be over paying by about $700.

Stage 1 in pompton plains, or east coast superchargers. I have used them both and they are both great.

$1300... that's just gay...You gotta call around..
Heres some options ( sales pitch).
1.Tell whomever you've had them installed on your "last ride" for under $500.
2. Alway's shoot them a lowball to moderate estimate FIRST.
Mine were installed for $340...I was quoted $750 and around $600 from other places.

Stear clear of shops that love the term "by the hour". Thats bullshit in most cases.
An 8hr day should not cost 1300$ for labor, considering their not working every minute of 8 hrs....that just means they don't give a **** about you.
Your money yes, you.. **** no.

Dont forget that the 4x4 shops will most likely have someone they recommend, or have someone in house to do gear installs, since its a very common mod when bigger tires are involved.

Just for reference, when I had my 10 bolt rebuilt a few years back, it cost me under 1k for EVERYTHING. All the bearings were replaced, 3.73s, and an Auburn Posi installed.

Gears and complete install/rebuild kit should be about $275 shipped. So that's $1025 in labor. Yeah I'd say that's a bit over-priced.

I found a place that will do it for $120.00 labor. He installed a full bearing and seal kit. But I need to go back my rear has a slight siren sound or howl. Im going to have him recheck his work.

My location is Elizabeth NJ. I talked to Cartek and they said thats how long it takes them (8 hrs) the $1300 is including parts so like $1k for labor. Really 8hrs x $105/hr (their rate) = $840 so im guessing they're adding tax and giving me a rounded up number so i'm not shocked later with tax i guess or if another part is needed.

are other places costing half as much for labor because their rate is half as much or because they are doing it in much less time. because if someone says they'll do it in 2 hrs i would highly question that as from the little i know about it you have to go back in after ur done and check wear and shim possibly multiple times.

Any advice from people that know the process and what is the time it really takes to do it right. i dont want them to be loud and mesh "ok". i want them installed as good as if i was doing it myself. So please help me gauge whether its a rate cost diff. or a time cost diff or both and what times (hours) are correct for this.

Thanks!!!

LOL @ those prices. Gears + Install kit should run you around $350-375 shipped to your door. Call around and see if you can find a shop to install them for $300 and a case a beer. Done deal.

i'm all for paying less. i will look for other places. but i want to know that i will not get less. If i get a 95% correct install for $400 i'd take the 100% install for $600. how many hours should this take and do you have to go back in and open up after driving and check wear pattern and take apart and shim? i need time in hours cuz in NJ rates may be higher than other places. but if i know hours are right then thats that.

Everyone is like $400. fine.
All i want to know is $400 job the same quality?
Cartek has high rates, i know, but they've done stuff for me before that time wise seemed like correct quotes. i cant dismiss them as being flatout wrong here when they have a brand to uphold why would they cheat me at the cost of their name?

Man...Sounds like your just in a shitty area...You might just have to pay top $ for your install.
Any where from 3-6 hrs depending on the installers experience. Mine were done in about
4 1/2hrs and it cost me 330$ from a guy who knows rears, differentials, and axle work.

Depends on how car you feel like driving. Garwood/Cartek is only about 10-20 minutes from you, if that. They're your closest place. The more you drive though, the more you open yourself up to other options.

It sounds like Cartek wants $700-$750 for the install of the gears. The other 500 is for new gears and a new rear cover, then tax. To be honest, yeah, those numbers are up there.

JSPerformance in Hulmeville, PA is an hour and change from Cartek, and they quoted me $325 for labor on installing gears. Josh is the owner, and I haven't heard anyone come out of his shop less than thrilled. Josh, JSP, 215-783-4645.

Fran right across the border in Delaware, and his contact info is above.
There's Tune Time Performance in Tom's River.
ECS (East Coast Supercharging) is down by Jackson, I believe. You can Google their name to get in touch with them.
These are all LSx performance shops and familiar with this work, and much more.

We'll gladly offer up some of the "local" options you have. You owe it to yourself to follow up on that and call around a bit.

I know some Ford guys that swear by Valley Performance, in Bellevillle I think. Not sure if they can get you the best price on the parts though. Definitely shop around before leaving a deposit.
