Ive got 4.10s, 60mph is about 1700 and 80mph is about 2000rpm. This is on a 275/40/17 tire (25.6" tire). Not really a problem cruising around. Although after I get my 8.8 swap ill be going 3.73s.

You must never get out of the city or suburbs. I have 3.42's and use 6th gear as low as 50mph.

I DD my M6 with 4.10's and a mild cam. It drives MUCH better with the 4.10's over the stock 3.42's and I get great gas mileage around town. It's really not all that bad on the highway either, probably lost 1-2 mpg. Honestly probably picked up a little fuel economy around town bc you can roll in 6th so low like MI-Z/28 said. I've actually been able to drive in 6th @ 30mph, just don't try it going up a hill XD

4.10's hands down for a street car. My race car has a 3.73 gear in it. I couldn't tell a huge difference between it and the 3.42s. I'm right at the factory rev limiter in 5th down the backstretch with them at Road Atlanta so 4.10s wouldn't work well for that application.

I didn't like that I was in 4th gear rolling down the road at 35 with my 4.10's. On the highway they were fine, but I didn't like them in the city. My new 9" has 3.70 gears.

I have 4.10s and love them on the street. I run a 315/30/18 on the rear and at 70mph my rpms are 2000. From what it looks like mine are higher than most other peoples it looks like, but not sure why.

Exactly! I am reading all of these post with RPMs at what MPH and have to wonder why isn't my 4.10 so highway friendly?

With stock tires I turn 2100 RPMs in 6th at 50MPH. Yea that's right 50. I installed the 4.10 myself so I know what they are. In 5th at 50MPH I am turning 2700 RPMs. Blast to drive but for me might have been better with 3.73.

I get 15MPG overall.

Why are steep gears better for mid - large cams? I have the Torquer V3 and will eventually get 4:11's or 3:90's but what is the reason they work better and give better drivabilty on a H/C car?

Take off is easier with my 4.10's vs the 3.23's I had with my 370 and a mid size cam. Also with the steeper gears it gets you into the "sweet spot" much quicker .

IIRC, with my 4.10's, I cruise easily at 35-40mph in 4th of 5th gear, with my 3.23's I was somewhere between 2nd and 3rd.

Ive had 5 camaro's and all 5 have had 4.10's. If your going to mod your car its really to me a good idea to put them in since youll get to your power quicker and stay there longer. Doesnt hurt either that it makes the car more fun to drive. My rpm's is low on the highway doing 70mph im around 1900-2100 rpms i think, havent checked lately. I get 240-260 miles to a full tank and i drive mostly city avg speed i think is about 26-27mph since i take the same exact road with my chevy cruze and avg the same speeds, except the cruze gets much better gas mileage, lol.

Curious why it matters what gear you are in while cruising at 35.

I was able to teach my daughter to drive a manual with my car with 4.10s. All she had to do was slowly let out on the clutch never touching the gas. Sure she would then hit the gas once rolling and always spin the tires but that was part of her fun.

Why would you stay in 4th gear with 4.10's at 35mph? You prefer to be in 3rd?

2100 RPM with 4.10's in 6th gear at 50mph?! No way.

50mph in 5th at 2700??? That what my car does in 4th gear with 4.10's.

At 70mph I'm around 2000rpm

Jr. Something isnt right there at all. I was getting nearly 23-24 mpg on the highway when my old TA was a 6 speed, with 4.10 gear.

I wouldnt have any less gear in a 6 speed car with a stock tire. 4.10's really wake the car up.

Hell, I was running 4.10's even after I switched to the TH350......on a stock tire

Running 3.90 here. The 300 rpm difference matters to me. I tuned with my EGR working and like having the "lean" mode enabled there on highway cruise. MPG is 28-30mpg depending on my mood but the 3.90 allows me to keep within the optimal EGR range of 1700-2200 and be within normal highway speeds. I usually cruise 1900 so that leeway to "speed" and still have that extra RPM to work with is critical.

1/4 mile wise, I finish at around 5900 rpm and my HP peak is 6200 rpm. If traction is good, I can hit bang on 6200 rpm at the end of the 1/4 mile. The gear you select should match how you want to drive the car.

Call me a liar and set me on fire I am shooting you straight brother.

Unless my tac is off considerably. I checked on the way home again last night and cruised at exactly 50 in 6th and was reading a hair over 2,000 RPM. I was off a tiny bit.

The speedo seems accurate. I bought it with 4.10s (installed incorrectly) with a programmed PCM.

My tach reads 2100 when I'm @1900. Verified via HP Tuners data logging.

Don't trust the tach to be exact.

Jr. all the rest of us can't be wrong with 2k@70 in 6th. Something is up with your tach or pcm calibration.
