Default alternative rear end upgrades??

Im needing to upgrade my rear end since my 408 is about ready to be installed. Anything i can do to upgrade it instead of having to buy a full, new 9" etc?

LPW make girdles and back braces, ARP stud the bearing caps, stronger axles, c clip eliminators, solid pinion spacer...can probably do it all for half the price of the 9, but you'll still only have a third of the rear.

Yeah, when you try to get a decent rear in these cars you see why gm decided to just eat some warranties.

The s60 might be an option too.

An S60 will handle your 408 and any future mods you make!!! Just go after market and be done with it. I rebuilt my 10 bolt twice and with a cam-only 346 A-4 it still broke! Now it did have @75 runs on it each time, flashing a 4500 vig converter with 4.10s and DRs. Bought a used 12 bolt, problem solved!! With your setup the 10 bolt just won't last. Plenty of good sponser sales on here or go used. Good Luck!! Larry

you mite find a used HD rear end in the used parts section for under $2000.I have seen some good 8.8 builds.I believe a guy will build up a 8.8 for you for around $1500.

You can do a brand new bolt in 9" set up with OE ford center and a spool for about 1600.

I bought a Heavy Duty 9" Housing used for $83 with axles included just no center section.

Bought a Ford Nodular Center Section with Detroit Locker and 4.86 Gears (1/8th Mile Car) for $300 all in great shape! I already have a Gear Vendor OD installed if the need to drive the car anywhere arises.

Currie Enterprises quoted me $569 to install and supply Suspension Mounts and Torque Arm Bracket along with narrowing axle -3" Per side. You can buy a new housing from some just as cheap but I know the Curries and would rather give people I know the cash as opposed to others I dont and they are less then 20 miles from me.

So all that is left is axles which I will probably have cut and re-splined for now. If and/or when I need larger axles I will go from there and by aftermarket.

One thing I might add is that I will look at the brackets and springs mounts that need to be fit to my axle and just make them weld them up and tack them on and let Currie Finish weld them on their Axle Fixture and probably save quite a bit of money on the $569 quote as $375 of that is for that is the brackets with welding. There probably isnt more then 1.5 hours of actual welding time on an axle.

I am out of town so I cant stop by there for a couple of weeks and talk to them.
