Default F-body What kind of gear oil?

Its a stock 10 bolt. Can I run synthetic? And what weight do I use 80w-90 right?

Some cars were optioned with Auburn difs. They can not use Synthetic. Torsen can. 80-90 sounds right, but it should be listed in the owner's manual.

Ok I've been away for a little, I'm just getting things ready for when I get back to it. I'll check the owners manual when I'm done. How do I know what kind of dif I have? I don't know anything about rearends.

For 99-02 it would have to be a SLP optioned SS to get the auburn, you can tell because it would have an aluminum AAM diff cover as well.

Ok mines a 96, so I should be good to use synthetic if I want. Or did some LT1's have auburn? My cover was just the plain jane GM 10 bolt. No factory SLP on the car.

My bad i thought you had a 99-02. Yours has the auburn carrier so what you need is any cheap regular non-synthetic 80-90 gear lube and a bottle of gm limited slip additive.

Ok thanks. Its my fault I just realized I never said what kind of car it was. I kinda wish it was an LS, but I love the LT.

Kind of off the topic of gear oil. I was told a limited slip has some cluth disk and springs in them but a posi just has springs. When off the ground a posi will spin both tires the same direction and a limited slip will not.

Mine has no clutch disc in it but the tires spin in opposite directions. So I would still have a limited slip right?

Heres the only pics I have now. I don't know it will help any. They may not show up I've never posted a picture before.
