ABS ring was a success. Never got a chance to make one and try it with the ford sensor, But it works perfectly at with the gm one. Only had to grind the 8.8 housing a little bit to make the larger o.d. ring I made fit.

Neat idea. If you put the tone ring on the pinion yoke you have to change the number of teeth depending on the rear gear ratio. The 10-bolt tone ring has 106 teeth so if you had 4.10 gears you need a 26 tooth pinion ring.

I know this thread is old but I am in the final stages of my own 8.8 build. I have access to a laser and can design my own reluctor ring. My question is has anybody tried using the explorer sensor with a factory 8.8 dimensioned ring. Does the abs "care" about the difference in resistance? Could I add a resistor in line with the sensor? (Assuming ford sensor has less resistance to start with, haven't measured for myself yet) Thanks

As far as I know nobody has tried the Ford sensor with GM's ABS. I have a CAD file for a tone ring that a couple guys have used on their 8.8s, but they used the 10-bolt sensor. I would assume the Ford & GM sensors have more difference than "resistance".

I am going to be using a gm sensor in mine. Ordered one last night. I will be milling the mounting surface of the pumpkin to lower the pickup to the proper depth and cutting a stock sized tone ring for signal. How much larger did u have to make the ring to work with the gm sensor? I would take the difference in the radius of the wheel to figure out how much to mill. Or I will just mill for the difference in reach of the sensors when I get a chance to measure them.

The diameter / radius of the ring doesn't really matter, the number of teeth does. We used 8.939" OD & 106T. The 10-bolt tone ring is about 7 3/8" OD but the 8.8 carrier flange is 7" so the 10-bolt tone ring can't be bored to fit.

Going to laser 106 ring at factory 8.8 ring size as to not grind interior of housing. I understand thecring will move at the same rpm regardless of size, all else equal. I want to mill the outside of the case to set my air gap instead of using a larger tone ring. But now that you have provided me with an o.d. spec I may do it your way.

what thickness did you end up cutting the ring at JakeWS6?
