Rear end whine? New gears?

Rear end whine? New gears? I just recently started to notice that i have a whine coming from my rear end in my 2000 SS.. I am not sure if it is my 2-285 g-force KDW's getting bad road noise.. or if it is my rear end going bad? It is completely stock and had 34,000 miles on it.. The noise gets louder when i am going faster.. and i can only hear it when i am rolling.. other than that my exhaust is too loud so i can't hear it 
If my rear end is going bad? What brand name of gears would be recommended? and what size? I was thinking of 3.73's but i see many are sticking with 3.42's.. If anyone could help me i would appreciate it.. Hopefully its not my gears.. but i'll plan for the worst! any help will be greatly appreciated!

I recently had that prob with my Z28..the whining noise, then getter much louder the faster I went. Not sure if it was the gears but I went ahead and put in my 3.42geared rearend from my SS. The noise aint there now 
So I would guess its your gears but could be wrong
